We stayed here for three nights, and were very disappointed with the check in. First, we did book through priceline. However, this has never been a problem for us...here the hotel checkin said that we could expect less service (a twin bedded room when we had specifically corresponded by email and confirmed that we were traveling as a couple and wanted a larger bed than a twin). It was a very big and upsetting deal to get a room with a double bed. I had to ask to speak to the manager before the front desk staff decided to do anything about our request. I found them snotty and rude and it couloured our perception of the hotel.

The hotel is expensive (all of the room service, etc. For example, we used the internet for a very short time to send a message home and had to pay a significant amount, very different from other hotels where the business centres provide internet free of charge or at a low rate). We were also disappointed that the location is not easily accessible to the main tourist sights in Paris. We had to walk to the train station/metro (admittedly fairly close) to get there past homeless people, and a strong and overriding smell of urine on the street. We did not feel safe in this neighbourhood at night.

The room was run down and shabby around the edges, definitely not a four star hotel. We stayed at four other properties while in Europe, and this was the most disappointing. Next time, we would book in a different hotel (one closer to the downtown area, and one with a better quality of service and facilities).

  • Liked — okay view of the city from higher floors
  • Disliked — staff; shabby and worn rooms; unsavoury neighbourhood

Dear Guest,

We would like to thank you very much for taking the time to share your views on the web site further your latest stay at Le Méridien Montparnasse.

We have noted your comments concerning the problem you've experienced at chck in and we would like to apology for these inconvienence. However, by chosing to book through PRICELINE, you definitely can get a good deal in term of low rate which corresponds to our lowest room categories.
A full range of upper class categories is available.
Concerning the other services you mentionned which you found too expansive, we only can recall that our prices are definitely in line with every other 4 stars hotels in Paris.

Finally, we have noted your points about the distance from Metro and main tourist sights in Paris. In order to avoid confusion for other travellers, we would like to highlight the following:
From the hotel main entrance:
> AIR France shuttles (orly/roissy CDG) = cross the street
> Gaité Metro line: 2 minutes walk
> Montparnasse Station Metro Line: 1 minute walk
> Tens of taxi available front door
> Paris is a huge town, and plenty of our customers might prefer walking rather than using the metro, as there is plenty different districts and attractive places that you may miss otherwise.

We look forward to welcoming you back to Le Méridien Montparnasse in a near future, we will arrange nice tour with our concierge.

Yours sincerely,
Olivier Servat

Easy to reach with Air France airport shuttle (stops directly at the hotel), the LeMerien is a very good hotel for conferences. The room are spacious, the food in the restaurant on the second floor is very elegant in French style.

From the outside the high-rise building is not particularly attractive but the higher rooms offer good views of the city and for this reason we requested a room on a higher floor. The weekend we stayed was very hot and the girl at the check-in desk told us that there was a problem with the air conditioning, suggesting we move to a cooler room on a lower floor. We decided to persevere with the higher floor (for the view) and the temperature was fine. It was nice that we were given the option though and during the day while we were out, the cleaners drew the curtains to stop the sun heating up the room.

Great selection at breakfast, room was comfortable and clean, but it was the accessible location and staff that made it. The hotel is near to a main metro station (direct lines to Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Flea Market, Arc De Triomphe) with a taxi rank and jazz bar next door. We walked to the Jardins du Luxembourg and St Germain. The staff througout the hotel were very pleasant and eager to help; we made use of the concierge to book a restaurant - La Coupole - and the Moulin Rouge. In both instances, by using the concierge we were able to jump the huge queues - La Coupole was extremely busy, with lots of people waiting at the bar but we were given a table in 5 minutes and at the Moulin Rouge, not only did we jump the huge queue, we were given a 'special' table right infront of the stage with a great view and I was even pulled on stage!

Another mention must go to Frederic, a porter who was extremely helpful, giving us little touristy facts here and there (in french) and drew us a map to his favourite cafe. We did tip him but that didn't seem to be his motive as he was always eager to help.

  • Disliked — Exterior and immediate surrounding area - 1970's high-rises

First, I booked the room via Priceline and paid $100 for nights. It was a fantastic bargain considering what I paid. It’s just an “American” feeling large high-rise hotel. By American standards the rooms are on the small side, but the bathrooms are large and very nice. My room was on the 24th floor facing north and the view was awesome (as most of Paris is very low rise) If you want a view like this, I’d guess that there are only a very few hotels that can offer them. As another reviewer complained, the neighborhood is CHARACTERLESS (not what I expected in Paris) but you just need to walk a few blocks and you’re in the Paris I was expecting. The hotel is near many metro lines/stops and it’s easy to get around. The hotel staff was fine and I have to say that the whole experience was positive. If you want an “American” feeling hotel, this would be a great choice. If you’re looking for something charming and quaint... keep on browsing. Considering what I paid its 5+ review stars…I’d gladly stay there again, even if I had to pay more.

Got a great deal through Hotwire for this hotel. Like most people, I checked out the reviews posted here to see if it was a good place to stay. I started to worry having read the bad reviews on here so I emailed the hotel with the links to the bad reviews. I received a reply from the Individual Reservations Manager who offered a free upgrade from standard to contempory room.

When we arrived the room was much larger than I had expected. The view from our 18th floor room was great - we could see the Sacre Coeur and half of Paris! There was a cute little welcome note on the TV in our room too. The bathroom wasn't orange, it was white and large.

We felt safe and secure in the room. Note to future visitors - you must either lock your door or put up a "do not disturb" sign to stop the maid entering the room at about 9am (without knocking).

The hotel is located close to the Montparnasse RER and Metro stop. There's a Galeries Layfette shopping mall in front of the Montparnasse station (but it's nothing like the main one on Hausmann Str). There are 3 grocery stores within 300m of the hotel. There are also cafes and bars close by also. If you're not tempted by the €23 breakfast or the €5 yoghurt then these are a much cheaper option.

My stay at this hotel was great and I would return. The only negative of my trip was a complete breach of trust by a member of their staff. When we returned to our room after a day of sight-seeing, I discovered that someone had been testing my make-up that I had left in the bathroom. I thought it was great that all my make-up had been tidied so neatly but when I looked closer, they had been used.

I discovered this on my last day and it left a bad feeling in my stomach after enjoying a great stay. The girls that checked us in and out at reception and the bellboy who looked after our bags were so friendl y and polite that this maid was the exception.
