“Certinally NOT 4 star, as advertised!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

Stayed for 2 nights... intended to stay for 4, but I was very disapointed by the hotel.
Very tired.. it needs a update!!
The breakfast was very ordinary. The breakfast room was freezing cold.. Perhaps the heating had been cut off??

My wife and I spent a night recently in this tired establishment. It is located on a busy intersection and at least 20 minutes from the nearest Metro with views over the neighbouring railway line. Double check the location before booking!
While providing adequate front desk help and information, the delivery was barely friendly.
My wife and I were the only people at breakfast and 'interrupted' the two staff who were obviously having their own noisy conversation and were not in the least bit interested in clearing our table or offering any customer service ! A good clean, some paint and maintenance and a lot of staff training /re-hiring could see this hotel comfortably fit the budget traveller niche and not where management perceives it at present.

Room Tip: Double glazing helps to make even corner - 'Intersection' rooms relatively quiet with the wi...

We were not very impressed by the hotel itself...while we thought the French decor was charming, the hotel looked old and tired and the common areas were dirty. Our room looked like the pics posted here, only about 20 years older, and the staircases looked like they hadn't been vacuumed in years.

At first, we weren't thrilled about the location either. We saw one or two cafes and many car repair shops on our way from the Metro station, but once we started exploring, we found this to be a great home base. It's not very close to the tourist attractions, but the subway system in Paris is amazing and cheap, and it's about a 10 minute walk to the nearest stop. The Moulin Rouge (which you must check out) isn't too far from the hotel, and there are tons of great bakeries and yummy and affordable restauraunts around, so it's perfect to have your breakfast among the locals before heading out to sightsee and your dinner in this area upon returning. The front desk staff are very courteous and tried to assist with all our requests, but they were ultimately not very helpful in terms of recommending restaurants or giving directions. I would suggest reading reviews for restaurants in the area before your trip or just walking towards Avenue/Rue de Clichy and stopping at a restaurant you encounter in one of the neighbourhoods along your way. We didn't have one bad meal in this area.

All in all, for our next trip to Paris, I might consider checking out other hotels around here. Although it isn't touristy, we did notice several others in the area that looked like they might be newer or better maintained. If you get a good deal on this hotel and you aren't too picky, this hotel is fine for the little time you will likely spend in it.

Presumably in style of Empress Eugenie, wife of Napoleon III, founder of France's Second Empire, the hotel has many pleasant old French decorative touches. It was gracefully put together and well located to stay in. My room on the 6th was small though the bathroom was not. Associates had a very pleasant bigger room lower down, on the 2nd, windows opening on to a busy plaza with bright cafes.
Staff however were variable. An efficient African girl at reception was cold and disdainful to deal with. An older man later was courteous and very helpful indeed. But the bright-faced young man on duty on Sunday 8 Sep at early checkout treated me being weak and elderly as a good reason to try to overcharge, twice.
The notice said, airport shuttle Eu18. I said I wanted a taxi. I was headed for the airport via Roissybus, my usual way. He told me the shuttle was right there, and the hotel could get me on it. He said it was Eu18 for the driver plus 8 cash for him personally. Then he tried to give me change, for 18 not 8.
I wonder if the hotel ever saw record of that payment or its commission.

Room Tip: The higher floors are old servant rooms so smaller.

Stayed at this hotel with my family. The hotel is a bit of a walk from the Metro and out of the central area. Our stay was comfortable, although some of the staff could afford to smile a bit more. The night staff are quite friendly.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and they run a 24 hour reception which as we got into Paris late was quite useful. However it was 15 minutes from nearest metro station so not easiest of places to locate.
The room was clean and the bedding changed every day. The TV channels listed did not correspond with what was actually tuned into.
The bed was very comfortable and the shower was very good as were the other bathroom facilities. Overall there was plenty of space in the room.
The breakfast was quite expensive at 14.5 Euros and not really worth the cost.
Overall this is a good hotel but it doesn't stand out from any other and it falls short of its 4 star rating.

Room Tip: The superior rooms were the one we stayed in and it had air conditioning which was useful as the tem...

My wife and I stayed at this hotel during our first trip to Paris.
The good points are: the location is very central and easy to travel around, the breakfast was good and the staff were friendly and helpful.
The bad points are: the hotel is around a few cafes so it can be loud till early hours of the morning, the rooms can be hard to find and the stairway is narrow.
All together, this place is good for the price and to get around Paris.
