“Location is all”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2014

Pros:

- Location is SUPERB - literally outside of the metro
- Breakfast is great, some cooked and continental

Cons:

- Rooms are small, but this really isn't a negative in Paris because everywhere is small
- Room was quite hot. Might have been us unable to turn the heating off, so again not really a negative.

Ideal for a base for exploring Paris. If you're planning on actually seeing the city the hotel won't matter too much anyway and this is a perfectly good bed in a brilliant area.

Me and my friend stayed at this hotel for 2 days. Overall the hotel itself was really nice the beds were comfortable. However there were a few bad things such as the kettle provided not working the door of our room was really stiff and it took great effort to open and close it. As well as this the t.v was not working either and this was really annoying as there is not really much to do. Despite this if this was all fixed I would consider staying here again.

My boyfriend and I went to Paris for the weekend, this was our first trip to France and we are planning many more! We arrived Saturday morning and left Monday morning. We could not have stayed in a better hotel, especially for the price! Rue Sainte Dennis two blocks away and brings you right into the heart of tourist Paris. Great shops and restaurants steps from the hotel. Our room was clean and decorated in Jazz motif. We are not young travellers so comfortable bed and bathroom are important to us, the Best Western Opéra Grands Boulevards delivered! The safe did not work, but we were offered a new room or to use the main hotel safe for our passports, no problem, quick and easy solution!
Hotel staff were wonderful and helpful, everyone at reception spoke English.
Just a note not much is open on Sunday in that neighbourhood and what shops are open close fairly early! But just a 10 minute walk away was lots of shops and restaurants that were open. We found a great place to eat on Rue St. Dennis and then we found a great local bar/restaurant two blocks away from the hotel where we sipped red wine and danced with the locals past midnight.
I highly recommend Paris and the Republique area to stay! I will return to Best Western Opéra Grands Boulevards, but just a note, do book ahead, the hotel posts a rate of $225 EU per night.

The BW Opera Grands Boulevards Hotel is perfectly situated if you are arriving or leaving from the Gare du Nord, which is about a 10-minute walk away. There are two metro stops within 5-8 minutes, but I got lost several times trying to find them before I got a sense of the neighborhood. The rooms are small, but not inordinately so for Paris, and mine had recently been updated (and, a big bonus, had a mini-fridge). The staff at the front desk was great, uniformly friendly and helpful, but the lobby is very small and was usually crowded because it's the only place there's free wifi. Overall, a good value for the money and location.

Room Tip: Rooms on the back have recently been updated and overlook a quiet garden.

Spent four nights here in September 2013. Very convenient for those who arrive in Paris at Gare du Nord - its just 10 minutes walk. Reception was friendly and welcoming. For those for whom language is an issue, English is spoken by the reception staff. Rooms are clean and well furnished although on the small side - standard for Paris. We did not eat there so cannot comment on the 12 Euro breakfast. The hotel is located in an area full of interesting bars and restaurants - a bit like Soho for those familiar with London. There are three metro stations within easy reach [Chateau D'Eau (line 4), Grands Boulevards (line 9), Cadet (line 7) for those wishing to explore Paris further. Would happily stay there again.

Room Tip: Jazz fans should ask for Room 304 - the ceiling is decorated with a jazz theme.
