“don't stay here!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2008

We have just got back from5 days in Paris, booked with a group. When we opened the door to our room, the smell of stale tobacco hit us like a brick. Absolutely awful. This is a non smoking hotel, we were told by staff, 'but if people choose to smoke there is nothing I can do'. No smoke alarms in rooms, can't open windows because of the noise from motorway directly outside (handles taken off). Don't know what you would do if there was a fire. They changed our room to one that didn't smell. Both rooms were basic. Small. Hadn't been decorated in 20 yrs(eighty's wallpaper, all dirty). cheap furniture. We lived out of suitcase as wardrobe inadequate. Second night we were disturbed by a group of young french men in the next three rooms. Shouting and banging doors all night. We complained, and the staff asked them to be quiet. It lasted 10 minutes. then they started again. The next night it happened again. We asked the staff to move them, but they wouldn't. Said they were guests of the hotel too!! They offered to move us. The third room was just like the other two, awful.

The staff were rude and unhelpful. Area was awful., We went out for a walk one evening. Wish we hadn't. Dirty streets, a few bars with groups of men sat outside. No women. Made us feel uneasy.
Food was very basic. Because we were with a group, we had less choice than the other guests.
Miles outside Paris. Good walk to Metro. We ended up using taxi into town. Cost us E20. Oh, and it advertises satelite tv. Joke. Only french channels.

Stayed here two nights (Jul 2-3) with a EF Tours group. The hotel is located in the 19th just just outside the Peripherique. Food was OK. Location is inconvenient -- nearest Metro stop is Porte Clichy, a 10-15 minute walk through a dodgy, but probably not unsafe neighborhood, at least if you're in a group. The rooms sucked -- our furniture literally looked like something I'd put in my grandkids' room. Beds were uncomfortable and the rooms were tiny, even by Parisian standards. The bathroom, however, was adequate. The staff was helpful, though, cheerfully providing maps, directions and answering general questions. However, you don't visit Paris to stay in your hotel room. If you need a reasonably priced place to crash, don't mind a some exercise getting to the Metro, and can tolerate cramped quarters, this may not be all that bad. There are certainly more charming hotels in this price range in better parts of Paris, though.

the hotel looks good in reception but when you get to the rooms thats a different matter . our room was dirty with ripped wallpaper scuff marks up the walls and the carpet and bedding stained and cigarette burned.myself having a food allergy i could not get a straight answer from the staff about the ingredients of the meals and in fact was told "i dont know "to.every question. i found all the staff to have an i could not care less attitude .on the last morning of our stay we were booked to have breakfast at 6.15 am but could not get into the restaurant until 6.25.am leaving us only 15 mins before our taxi arrived, because the breakfast buffet was not ready.

Poor hotel, dirty rooms, disinterested staff and a dodgy location. On the plus side the food was ok but wasn't there for the food....

Got what I paid for I guess but would definitely avoid in future.

We booked a very late package through lastminute.com and paid less for two nights than we would have had to for one! The hotel was fine, having read reviews about the area was very worried but even returning very late at night after a rugby game c. 12.30am everyone was very cheery and friendly on the walk back to the hotel from the station and we had two teenage girls in tow! It is the turkish district I think and it was all men about but definitely not threatening and very polite. The hotel rooms were ok - fairly basic, but clean and a reasonable size for Paris. The reception staff were fantastic and went out of their way to help and the bar was very friendly. Having read the reviews I was very dubious and although very prepared for what we got it certainly wasn't as bad as some previous reviewers have said. You got what you paid for - probably a two star rather than a three.

My wife and I just returned from two weeks in Europe. We arrived at the Comfort Hotel Median on July 7,2007 and were expecting to stay two nights and then continue on our trip. We actually wanted to check out immediately after seeing the awful conditions in this place, however we were tired from our flight and really did not know where else to go. We took a walk and found another hotel and the next morning moved our luggage down the street to another hotel. We checked out after one night and moved to the Hotel Ibis down the street. To all travellers, please do not ever stay at this hotel. It is filthy, the desk staff are rude, the hotel rooms are filled with mildew and stink. The hotel is also not convenient to central Paris. We took the Metro from Port de Clichy to get into Paris. It wasn't bad to travel that way, but next time in Paris, we would stay closer to central Paris.
Remember, do not ever book a room in this hotel, unless you like staying in the most deplorable living conditions you could imagine. We will be contacting Comfort Hotels directly to also tell them about this very poor hotel in their chain. Maybe if Americans stop staying here, then they will get their act together.

We stayed at the Median for 3 nights with a student tour group. I was really worried after reading other reviews, but the hotel wasn't as bad as I was expecting. The rooms are fairly large by Paris standards - we had a spacious bathroom - full tub. We had a closet and a double bed, a desk and a TV stand. View is not that great (right on a highway) but who is in the room for much time anyway? The carpets are worn, but nothing looked dirty to me. Beds were fine. We did have a problem with A/C but they moved us right away. Breakfast was included and was the basic stuff - hotel bar was friendly and let our kids sit at a table and play cards with no problem. The walk to the metro is just a few blocks. I wouldn't want to walk around alone at night here, but during the daylight hours it was fine. We were here over a holiday weekend so the hotel restaurant and bar were closed very early, but the nearby Holiday Inn was open and had everything we needed. A little Boulanger around the corner had great pastries and coffee. If you want more info, or on an EF Tour and are planning on staying here, feel free to contact me.
