“For the 9th you cant beat it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2013

Stayed at this hotel for a couple of nights for a quick break of scenery, really surprised at how good it was. Usual Paris three star hotels are usually gruesome. Not this one...great room, lovely helpful staff, nice ambiance and location couldn't be better for metro's and Montmartre...also really near to interesting shops and nightlife on Rue Des Martyrs...which any foodie types will love.

Room Tip: We had inward facing on top floor...very quiet.

Booking through Railbookers was so easy, and their staff genuinely knew this hotel, so I felt confident booking it. The hotel is close to Cadet on Ligne 7, but you can take a 7 minute taxi ride from Gare du Nord. Watch out for the 'helpful' people who want to carry your bag at the station!
But once you arrive at the Hotel de la Tour d'Auvergne, which is in a side street, you'll feel miles from the station. The staff are really friendly and most helpful.
Our bedroom was large for Paris, nice decor, and the bathroom very clean. The best part was the breakfast ; compact but lovely room, with fruit, fromage frais, fruit juice, croissants, rolls and pain au chocolat, served by very courteous staff. Breakfasts of this standard are not common in Paris.
One evening, as we returned from dinner, we felt very sorry for a member of staff who had only started the day before, and who got locked out by accident. She waited outside for two hours in the freezing cold, without a coat, in order to make sure that no guests returned and were confused by the closed door. Although it was slightly inconvenient waiting for a keyholder, there were plenty of restaurants and brasseries nearby to offer warmth. We were impressed by the receptionist's standard of commitment. Some people would have just walked off. This reflected the professional attitude of all the staff.

We can recommend a brasserie five minutes away - La Terrasse de Maubeuge, 4, Rue Choron serves a very traditional menu at very reasonable prices, and the proprietor and staff are very welcoming. There are also excellent Italian and African restaurants within a couple of minutes.

This is an interesting area; a walk away from Sacre Coeur, but well away from the brittleness of Pigalle. The Metro trip to Louvre is less than ten minutes, so buying a carnet of ten tickets makes sense.

We also found the Car Rouge bus great fun, and the Batobus was brilliant value too!

Don't be put off by stories of grumpy Parisians and extortionate food prices - you will have a pleasant surprise.

In all, this holiday overturned all the clichés about cynical Parisians. We definitely hope to return.

Room Tip: We were on the top floor, which meant heavy reliance on the teeniest lift ever! But, even though ou...

My boyfriend & 1 spent 3 nights at this hotel and we had a ball. We fell in love with Paris. As other reviews have mentioned the hotel is in a nice quiet area, close to Gare du Nord and the local metro stop - Cadet, will bring you to all the local attractions and sights.

It's true the lift is small, the stairs are narrow, and the rooms are small but we laughed about this, it made the experience even more special for us, why would you want to go away and get exactly what you have at home. It is Continental Europe after all, I have seen smaller spaces and the comfortable double bed was a nice surprise rather than two singles pushed together which is usually the norm. The room was spotless and was cleaned everyday and towels were replaced daily also. Breakfast is efficient, the different breakfast crockery used was a fabulous touch which will make us remember our time at this hotel. We stayed on the 5th floor so my phone did not always pick up the free wi-fi from the hotel.

I have to mention how helpful, friendly and polite the staff were at the hotel. A special mention about Mustapha (I hope I spelt that correctly), the night staff. He was very helpful to us organising Disneyland and printing our boarding passes. He is an asset to the hotel. Also, all staff spoke perfect english to us which we really appreciate as we only have very basic french.

We would definitely recommend this hotel and we will be returning again in the future.

Having just got back from our trip to Paris, moi and my lovely daughter, I feel compelled to write immediately before the memories become all to distant .. !!

I booked through Railbookers, initially on line but did the final business actually speaking to a person, who I am glad to say, redirected me from an initial choice made by me, to the Hotel de la Tour d'Auvergne .... he assured me that he had recently stayed there and that in his opinion was a "pretty safe bet..... more than that, we had such a lovely time there. And well for once, this advice was SOoooooo right. One is always a bit sceptical on having looked at the official websites of place ..... but this time, this little GEM, was not only really good value but so exceeded our expectations!!

Our room was good, bed more than comfortable, and the bathroom with its look of mosaic tiles and round glass sink surprisingly modern!! Contrary to any previous reviews, our shower had a glass partition and no water spilled out onto the bathroom floor. I think the whole place has, and is still, undergoing a makeover, the last seemingly being the very art deco wall paper being put up on the staircase ... do not envy the guy putting up this as the design match is pretty exacting!!

Top Marks to the very lovely Sam at the front desk who was so friendly and full of excellent advice as to where to go, best local eateries etc .... such a welcoming smiley face ,... BIG THANK YOU MR.SAM !!!

Isabelle, the manageress, was very helpful too, who directed us on our last day to the most wonderful little cheese shop, and wine shop, both only just up the road from the Hotel, and then put our purchases in the fridge until we departed for the Gare du Nord early evening .... btw, you check out at 12pm but they will keep your baggage safe until departure.

I shall definitely be back, the area is so convenient to the Gare du Nord, a mere 10 mins walk away, 10 or so mins up to the Sacre Coeur, and a 5 mins stride to Cadet metro which takes you down to most of the central places in Paris. The whole area had the feeling of being a safe place to stay, not overly touristy but nicely central..

We had fantastic weather too, blue sky and warm sun, how amazing for mid February........

Stayed in this hotel over Christmas time with my boyfriend. The location is great, near Montmartre, in a quiet street and close to the main attractions of the city. The room was spacious and very well decorated. The bathroom was very nice too. Everything was clean and tidy. The staff is really agreable and helpful, they gave us plenty of indications as to which places we should visit. The breakfast was very nice and made a wonderful start for the day.

Room Tip: Ask for room number 01!

We stayed for 4 nights at the end of October and found the hotel to be brilliant. We had a ground floor room that was magnificently stylish and comfortable. The wet room/ shower was a stunning emerald green and the fittings in the room were stylish and amusing. The room itself was a pleasing adventure. The staff were professional, helpful and friendly. The breakfast was a delight and room service excellent. The location was excellent despite extensive road works being carried out in the area. We had a brilliant 4 days in Paris and the hotel played an important part of our experience.

Room Tip: The ground floor rooms are excellent.
