My husband and I spent three nights at the Abbatial St. Germain, booking there based on prior recommends on this site. They gave us room #31. DO NOT STAY IN THAT ROOM. It has a small window that only opens to the inside of the hotel. The air conditioner didn't work, there was only a small desk fan in there. It was the end of June and warm! I told the clerk that the AC didn't work, and she was able to move us the NEXTday to a much nicer room with real windows that opened out. Both rooms are small. The bathrooms are a relatively good size and clean. The location is really just OK. It is close to the metro, but you must take the metro everywhere to get anywhere. The staff was fairly friendly. It's a good value for the money, but the rooms are really basic. I would stay in the St. Germain des Pres area next time, that's where all the restaurants, bars, and shopping are!

My daughter and I stayed here for 3 nights in June. The hotel is nice. Our room (#61) had a great view of the Paris skyline including Notre Dam and the Pantheon. We asked for twin beds and actual were given a double and a twin. The room was a nice size (for a European hotel), even had 2 small closets. The hotel is 1 block away from a subway station and is just several blocks to Notre Dam. There are many cafe's and restraurants within a 1/2 radius.

I was most impressed with the staff. I had a problem with my train tickets and the front desk clerk went out of her way to call the train station and was able to solve the problem for me. Very nice, since I speak no French at all. They were also very helpful to another traveler who had lost their luggage.

I would forgo the continental breakfast - 10euros. There are many cafe's and passiteries in the area where you can get great breakfasts for less money.

My husband and I stayed in room 14 in June 2004. There was a drawer missing from one of the nightstands, shreds of fabric hanging from a footstool, stains on the headboard and ceiling and we found a book of pornography atop the cupboard. Whenever we or another guest flushed or showered we heard the gush of water in the wall behind the headboard. The bathroom had a sliding door that was hard to maneuver and wasn't designed to fully close. The bed and pillows were scratchy and lumpy. We awoke one morning to a worker sawing in the hallway. But the location was excellent and the desk staff was very helpful.

Just returned from five day stay in the Hotel Abbatial from 6/3/04-6/7/04. Rented two triple rooms on the third and fourth floors. The Lift (elevator) is very small....will accomodate two people or one person with their luggage. Normally took the stairs. Slept with the windows open until it got warm on the last night and the hotel turned the A/C on. It worked acceptably in one room (#35) and horribly in the other (#45). In room mini-refrigerator with nice restroom. Rooms were small, but that's Europe. Limited cable TV channels, only non-French channels were CNN-World and the BBC. Good restaurants within walking distance. My family enjoyed the contintental breakfast that was served in a quaint basement dining area. The hotel is only one block from a Metro station and two blocks south of the Seine River. If looking for a good price/value hotel again in Paris, I'd choose the Abbatial again. The staff was very friendly, and as required by the French gov't for a *** hotel, there was always an English speaking staff member at the Front Desk.
