“small and cosy..great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2012

It was a bit of an effort to get here as the local taxis wouldnt take us the short distance from the train station at Gare Lyon.
It was a nice day and we pushed our suitcases for a few kilomteres to bastille.
It wasnt hard to find and was a pleasant surprise.
Parisian hotels arent all that big in my experience and budget.
the welcome was pleasant and friendly.
The room was a couple of floors up and the lift very small.
We were wasted from lot of travelling and we were very tired.
The bed was comfy and welcoming..just what we needed to catch up on ;seep.
The hotel wasnt far from the main road leading up to the louvre and other famous destinations.
It was a great night out in paris.
One down side of the hotel was that the bathroom was very small but if you can get over that then the rest is good.
Had breakfast downstairs in the cellar.
This hotel is well located and a good short term place to stay

Small rooms, elevator not working, rooms extremely small, weird smell on the stairs, shampoo etc very bad quality.. in short .. avoid at all costs.

during the same trip, we stayed for the same price in another hotel in the Champs Elysees area and it was much better.

Set in a delightfully-furnished period building just around the corner from the Place du Vosges, this hotel is in the perfect location for a short break in Paris.

We stayed for three nights to attend a friend's wedding. We found the bedroom in excellent condition, with a modern, recently-installed shower-room en suite. It was small, but that comes with the territory in Paris; what matters is whether it is clean and fresh, and this one was a delight. The bed was a little hard for us and we didn't sleep as well as we could.

We didn't use the basement breakfast room - you're in the Marais, for goodness sake, why eat in the hotel? We found the staff charming and friendly and we're sure we'll go back again as long as he can get the same reasonable price we found for this visit.

I booked this hotel through a package with expedia for about $1300 per person including airfare. For that price all I was looking for was a good location, close to the metro and most of Paris' attractions as well as a private bath and airconditioning. I got all of this and a bit more. The room we had was #42, it was a corner suite with a double bed and a very quaint view out of both windows. It was TINY but I had expected that, there was enough room to store 1 large and 1 small suitcase and the built in shelving unit/closet served our purposes. We saw a few rooms when housekeeping was going through that were slightly bigger and looked like they had Queen sized beds but we had booked a double and it was fine considering we're two small people (5'2" and 5'6"). The ensuite bathroom was very clean and had relatively new fixtures and tiles but major warning for those taller than us, we practically hit our heads on the ceiling in the shower, there was no way that it was taller than 6'. The bedding was relatively new but housekeeping didn't seem to change the sheets every day even though we did leave them a tip but they did give us new towels every day and they vacuumed and tidied up. There was a little bit of damage to the walls of the room (probably from people dragging suitcases around in the limited space) and the chain on the door was broken but we were so busy that we didn't even bother to ask to have it fixed. There was a safe that could've held a laptop but the one thing that was missing was an iron and ironing board so we were a little wrinkled. Major bonus- each suite has a thermostat so you can control your own AC. Our room was relatively quiet, some street noise and some noise when people came in and out of their rooms but no noise seemed to travel between the suites. The hotel is in a great area, very close to the Chemin Vert metro station and about a 10 minute walk to the seine. Don't waste your money on the morning breakfast, the bakery right next door sells every type of pastry you could want very cheaply. Easy to get to Versailles and to and from the airport, overall a good buy and we were very happy with it.

My wife and I recently stayed at Hostellerie du Marais for two reasons: (1) We wanted to become more familiar with the Marais neighborhood in which this hotel was located; and (2) This hotel reminded us of a well-designed, boutique hotel in Paris that we enjoyed two years ago, and the rates at Hostellerie du Marais were three quarters of the rates at the other.

We couldn’t have been happier with this hotel’s location. Situated on a quiet street around the corner from Place du Vosges, this hotel conveniently positioned us within the heart of Marais and within striking distance of the heart of Paris on Ile de la Cite.

As for this hotel, we regretted trying to save a few Euros. The most lacking element was the service. Although the reception staff at check-in greeted us warmly, the warmth and hospitality melted away as soon as we asked for help with restaurant reservations and taxis. To be fair, the reception staff did everything we requested, but with an attitude as if they had been inconvenienced or interrupted, and they made no attempt to go the extra mile. Although the room was fairly sized for Paris, it lacked amenities to which we are accustomed: a coffee maker or electric kettle, a mini-refrigerator in which one can place French cheese for the next day, and a telephone that allows free, local calls. Our shower was designed in a way that permitted water to pool on the bathroom floor, despite recent renovations the hotel was worn and the walls in our room were scuffed and dented and one window had a cracked pane, the perfume from the carpet cleaning agent was beyond overwhelming, and the cleaning staff didn’t respect “do not disturb” signs, which led to other problems. Our last complaint was the extraordinarily tight halls and stairs that were turned into obstacle courses by the cleaning staff and their supplies. We understand that the hotel was constrained by the construction of an old building and that no other space was available for a cleaning cart but the space immediately outside our room door, but it was another annoyance in a long list of annoyances at this hotel.

The best thing about this hotel is the location - heart of the Marais, 30 seconds from the Place des Vosges. Restaurants and cafes nearby.

Likes- nice, clean rooms. Modern decoration, good shower, no noise from street. There is a cafe right next door that does a set breakfast @ 7 euros.

Dislikes - not much. Lack of special touches e.g there were just the basic soap etc. you would expect more at that price.

I would return to the hotel though as the location was good.

We booked this hotel for its location and expected the usual 3 star Parisian small room, tiny lift etc. That is what we got - location wise it was excellent just round the corner from the Place des Vosges and close to all the bars, restaurants and sights of the Marais and handy for metro and bus stops. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful with a nice longe area to relax together with an honesty bar. The room was compact but fine for 4 nights with just enough storage space and the bathroom was clean with a good shower (though nowhere to put the shower gel!). We had breakfast at 13 euros each which while a bit pricy comapred with nearby brasseries had a decent choice of breads, cereals, juices, fruit, cheese and meats together with boiled eggs. Typical 3 star price and overall a good choice if a typical 3 star Paris hotel is what you want.
