“Helpful hosts and delightful hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013

Didier and Marc run their hotel in a professional, yet very warm and helpful manner. Initially, I found it very easy to complete booking arrangements with Marc. We found the 2 rooms we stayed in, while small, were delightfully decorated and well equipped with good lighting. We loved the double showerheads, especially after being thoroughly drenched on a cycle tour! The breakfast was generous and the room was absolutely charming. Didier was especially helpful when we suddenly found our overseas flight had been cancelled due to a strike. While we had no luck phoning our airline, Didier persisted and only with his help were we able to rebook our flights. We would definitely recommend this hotel, especially to anyone wishing the opposite of 'the big chain hotel' experience!

This is a great small hotel in the Le Marais section of Paris. The owners Didier and Marc are extremely friendly and helpful... Didier prepares breakfast every morning and asks how your previous day was and gives you tips for the day ahead. Didier gave us an excellent restaurant recommendation to Monjul which we never would have found on our own but was absolutely delicious. The rooms are not fancy but they are comfortable and relaxed... no AC but we were happy to find a ceiling fan which really cooled the room down. The best part is the value; we paid 125EUR per night which is an excellent value in a city as expensive as Paris. Only complaint was that the hotel was a bit off the beaten path; you really have to walk at least 15 minutes to be truly in the heart of Le Marais and near most of the restaurants. But on the plus side it was very quiet and there were a couple of metro stops that were accessible. Overall a great experience and value at Hotel du Haut Marais.

Our family of four (two adults, two teens) recently spent 5 nights in the top floor apartment and loved it. The apartment itself was extremely clean and bright and well furnished and provided us with ample space. The living room had a very comfortable sofa bed and the bedroom had a wonderful bed. There were several windows which opened on the east and west sides of the suite providing a beautiful cross breeze. Fans were available but we didn't need them. The kitchen provided everything needed for a group of four but we didn't actually use it much as we were out and about exploring Paris.

Breakfasts are provided daily in the cellar of the hotel and it was fun to meet the other travellers each morning. The two hosts Didier and Marc are very informative and helpful and they prepare a lovely continental breakfast each morning.

The location is great, less than 5 minutes from Arts & Metier Metro, and only 20 minutes from Notre Dame. We walked everywhere (Opera, Bastille, Notre Dame, Louvre) and found the streets charming.

The bathroom, though small, is designed most efficiently and has one of the most wonderful showers in Paris.

There are two tvs, one in the bedroom and one in the living room. There is also free wifi for guests. I had a bit of trouble with the wifi but found that I had trouble throughout France so I think I am just used to a different level of connectivity in Canada. When I could get access, the signal was strong.

As this lovely boutique hotel only has 8 rooms, availability may be an issue. Initially we wanted to stay in Paris for a full week before heading for the Loire but we could only get 5 nights so we had to rearrange our schedule somewhat but we are very happy that we did. We would definitely stay here again.

great place to relax, my stay lasted a week and a plus certainly is the service and the price the hotel, the location is also about food so-so, but my room was decorated so great with Samek and sense I loved it, great

This is a wonderful 8 room hotel that is both reasonably priced and scrupulous about cleanliness, comfort and decor. I shared the room at the very top of the house with my sister and cousin--two single beds in the bedroom and a sofa in the main room that opened into a comfortable bed. There was an entryway to hang coats and a table with chairs in the main room and a counter with a refrigerator underneath, burners and some kitchenware. Great shower, enough outlets, many windows for a breeze. Nicely stocked breakfast buffet with freshly made coffee or tea for each guest. My cousin had some mobility problems but found the handrails on the first flight of stairs and down to the breakfast room were quite adequate and there is an elevator from the first floor upward. Our only slight problem was having only one key to the front door and to our room, We had to be creative if we split up for our daily excursions. I think this hotel works best for those who don't need a lobby with a 24 hour desk. It's more like being a guest in someones elegant house. We appreciated the beauty and the privacy.

Finding a reasonable, well located hotel in Paris is challenging. Finding one that includes breakfast, is spotlessly clean with comfortable beds and great showers is practically impossible, but look no further. Hotel du Haut Marais is it. Not exactly a hotel, nor even a typical bed and breakfast...there is no lobby to greet guests in, just Didier and Marc's living room. Yes, you need to get your luggage up to the first floor, but Marc was more than happy to help us. After that the small elevator was perfect for going up and down. Breakfast is also a flight down, so you do need to be able to walk stairs. Breakfasts at a large communal table were plentiful and conversations with other guests added to our enjoyment. During our stay, it was necessary to keep the windows open so the voices of the children arriving at the school woke us at 8:30 on school days, but with a day in Paris awaiting us, who wanted to sleep later. With the windows closed this wouldn't have been a problem. The hotel is not air-conditioned, but the rooms have wonderful overhead fans that did the trick for us during a warm spell in June. All in all--a wonderful find! Thank you Didier for everything.

Room Tip: Choose an internal room when you might need to have open windows and might want to sleep past 8:30 a...

I stayed in the double room for 3 nights with a friend, on my 4th trip to Paris. This is a small B&B located very close to two metro lines. It's also walking distance to many restaurants in the Marais & Rue montorgueil.

The double room is a typically Parisian small rom, but it has everything you need. It was quiet, and the bed is comfortable. There is some noise if people are walking up the stairs, or if your window is open to the internal courtyard, but it didn't bother us. The elevator doesn't stop at the ground floor, so take heed.

Great place to stay, excellent value. Not recommended if you travel with huge bags and like a big room to spread out. For seasoned travellers looking for someplace with character, this is the place. In my opinion, the Marais is the great neighbourhood for patisseries and mid range shopping, its not too touristy either. Would definitely recommend to others.
