“Peace in the city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2013

If you're tired of scooters blazing by and speaking over honking horns while you sip your morning coffee, try any one of the cafes in Ile St.-Louis. Traffic is almost nonexistent and blocked off at some points and it definitely doesn't get the same foot traffic despite it being smack in the middle of the city. On warmer days, there's Berthuillon's Ice cream and sorbets serving limited run flavors (by limited, I'm talking only for a day). It's mostly residential with a few small shops here and there.

“Too glitzy up close!”

The twinkle lights make Tour Eiffel a Disney structure! By night of day stay back and admire from afar.

“Charming old world island”

What a charming area - of course one has to go to Bethillion for ice cream and then sit on the banks of the Seine as you watch the world go by!

“A beautiful, slowed down pace”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2013

We travelled to the Ile St. Louis after visiting Notre Dame and the St. Chappelle, as Café Med was a restaurant recommended to us.
Tiny streets with tiny sidewalks running in front of quaint, individual shops were a treat. We later learned that this little island houses some of the most expensive properties in France.
It is very small, and definitely worth taking a stroll around. I can't recommend enough the wonderful meal we had at Café Med. Excellent service and food.
Overall it's busy due to the overflow of Notre Dame tourists, but it's upscale and there are no hawkers. A nice place to go and buy a considerate, thoughtful and not kitschy gift for loved ones at home (or yourself) and to have a nice meal after touring the cathedral.
