“Fifth Stay at Regina”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2011

My husband and just returned from a five night stay at the Regina. As we are repeat guests I will refrain from commenting on the general character of this hotel as I have done so in my former reviews. We love this hotel. We are always greeted warmly by the staff, many of whom recognize us now. The service is excellent. The location is perhaps the best in Paris.

Prior to arrival I sent an email requesting our deluxe room with a nice view. The reservationist was very kind and booked us room 615, the corner room on the top floor. The rooms on the 6th floor have lower, irregular ceilings since they are built in to the roof line. They are decorated in Jouey fabrics. Our room had a larger footprint than many deluxe rooms, since there is a day bed in addition to the king sized bed. The bathroom is very large. There are two little balconies, big enough to walk out on to (but not large enough for two chairs). The views are probably the best in the hotel -- truly amazing! While I really appreciated the room for its uniqueness, I would not book it again ONLY because I am claustrophobic and prefer higher ceilings. Also, I noticed that the wear and tear in this room was a bit greater than in other deluxe rooms we have enjoyed. I did ask if we could be moved to a lower floor, but as the hotel was packed it was not possible. I would recommend this room to honeymooners, families with a young child (the day bed is perfect!), or those who love cozying up in a romantic Parisian garret room. Also, this room is super quiet! I have rated the hotel a four out of five this time ONLY because we did not enjoy our room as much as we have in previous visits. It is important when staying in a hotel to know what sort of accommodations you like best, and ask for them. The reservationist who booked our room was so lovely and gave us what she knew to be the best view in the hotel. She could not have known that we prefer the rooms with higher ceilings since I was not more specific. Next time, we will make a more specific room request. All and all, though, another charming stay at the Regina. We will be back!

Room Tip: Be specific about what you prefer.

“Hope you like listening to your neighbors in the City of Love.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2011

Know that I am NOT an ugly American who doesn't appreciate other cultures or customs. However, for the price paid, this hotel lacked in many ways. First, when booking, we were told breakfast would be included. We did not notice on our confirmation that it wasn't added, so when we arrived, we were told it wasn't added of course, despite the price remaining as it was quoted. We were upgraded which was nice. However, the hotel is TIRED. It is featured in so many great films, and we had wonderful expectations of the charm that was apparent there. Once we were in our room, we noticed old bed stained bed covers, old, stained carpets, and a general aloofness of the entire staff. The concierges acted like we were bothering them with a question,. Getting a knife and a wine opener from the kitchen was close to impossible (we finally opted for the wine opener and used a toothbrush as a knife). The shower was typical European where taller people have to do the limbo to rinse their hair. Tha bathroom was beautiful, though, and the room was right across the street (think LOUD) from the Louvre with a beautiful view of the Eiffel Tower. Oh, and I forgot to mention the paper thin walls. These became apparent during the 1:30 a.m. coitus session of the folks in the room DOWN THE HALL (there was no room next immediately next to ours) and the vomiting session on the other side at 3:45 a.m. Thank goodness my daughter is a heavy sleeper. Overall, stay somewhere else, with people who want you there and enjoy showing others their beautiful city.

Room Tip: Views of the Eiffel Tower are great, but realized with them you get the street noise.

“4 star price, 1 star quality”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2011

I wanted a great Paris location, and this hotel had it. It was quite expensive, and I was looking forward to a good room and stay. It was not. My room for over 250 euros was the size of a prison cell. Twin bed, no comfortable chairs, no shower, and internet did not work. When i complained to the front desk (who told me I was in a "very nice" room), they told me that Americans did not appreciate French hotels. I travel 80 nights a year outside the US. this is by far the worst room I have seen. They did not refund internet or make any amends, and the arrogant attitude at the front desk did not help.

“Three star hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2011 via mobile

From my travel experience this hotel shall not be ranked with four stars. Please don't take me wrong, the premises are centrally located with an easy enjoyable walk to most important destinations in Paris; lobby is antiquely inviting and even personnel is extremely pleasant to see and serve you as a client. But once you flutter through the looby to your room, you are really begin to question your confidence whether you made a right decision by purchasing few nights at this overpriced and a bit aged property. We stayed at classic room, which was 15 sq/m and the smallest and the cheapest option available. There was literally no place to step once two midsized luggages had been situated on the floor. Carpet was old and some of the bathrooms trim was visually deteriorated at the bottom. Bed was clean, fresh and semi comfortable. In conclusion I think this hotel is rather tree star hotel and shall be rated properly.

“Old World Charm and Accommodating”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2011

The Regina Hotel is perfectly situated in the 1st arrondissement, next to the Louvre and the Tuileries. The rooms were larger than the usual Parisian rooms, well-appointed with great updated bathrooms. Substantial closet space, comfy beds. But the best part was the attention we received from the staff. The concierges were awesome, especially Michel. He gave us a great recommendation for the best dinner we've ever had in Paris - Lasserre - and, of course, made all the arrangements for us. My French is limited but I was never felt to be inadequate because of it. The staff is exceptionally warm, welcoming and helpful - and they speak many languages! We'll be back!
Patricia and Ron

Room Tip: We were on a non-smoking floor. Very quiet.
