We are from Chicago and Dublin (two families visiting Paris) and had a great time staying at the hotel. We paid around 200 Euro per night per room each with two double beds, bath, shower, facing the street. We stayed up late every night drinking French wine while the kids slept but noise wasn't an issue for all of us in the room. The courtyard however nice, is plain and boring. I much prefer opening the window and take in the sights and the hustle and bustle of the city and then closing it to make it quiet enough. So no issues here for us.
The room we had was a Superior room (19 sq Meters) so comparing to American standards, it was long enough but slightly narrower with all the beds and American style furniture typically found in hotels. Compared to French standards it probably was a monstrosity but with two kids in each room with us, we needed the size. We debated wheather this hotel was too American'ized prior to booking but there was enough opportunity outside the hotel to experience French culture.
Breakfast was included for all of us (kids eat free as usual at any Holiday Inn) and we took advantage of that or slept right through the hours. If you are a morning person, get the breakfast included. The omelettes and pancakes are of everyday variety in any decent hotel. You can get a crepe outside for a couple of bucks anytime in Paris. I forget the name but there is a great cafe/bakery around the corner as well.
The lobby is nice and clean, the bar has a good ambience with all the tourists around you, drinking like the rest of you. Drink prices are like everywhere else in Paris. House wine sucks, get your own bottle. Our kids had a chance to run around in the lobby area (corner) and had a great time while we had a chance to have a few drinks in the evening. The staff was very friendly towards the kids.
Everyone in the hotel spoke English. To be honest, we did not have much trouble with our broken (as a group ranging from very bad to decent) French anywhere in Paris. In most situations, we were able to get exactly what we wanted. Perhaps we were trying, that's why?
The location of the hotel is across the street from the Metro stop Republique and is North East of the Latin Quarter, the Louvre etc. I wouldn't call it the "heart" of the city but it's a only a few Metro stops away.
Plenty of hustle and bustle and activity for the kids. Across the street, there were bouncy castles and a Merry go Round for the kids. The guys will negotiate the price if you wish.
Cab Ride to the hotel from CDG was about 38 Euro plus luggage plus tip so around 40-45 Euro. If you have no luggage and two people, Metro is more effective and convenient enough. With kids and luggage it will be a pain to ride the Metro so beware.
As for Paris, I personally think it's a great city. Apart from museums, Eiffel Tower, Look out for Rollerbladers on Friday nights and demonstrations throughout the city, typically on Sundays. French love to demonstrate I guess. Wine is cheap in the stores so stock up.
If you venture out to Disney, take the Metro to Nation and then RER line A towards the Parc.
Have fun,
SHNR
