The room was excruciatingly small and charmless. I could hear water running through the pipes in the walls. The worst part was the constant smell of urine in the bathroom.

The description of this hotel says it is 10 minutes from the Gare de Lyon station, which is why I chose to stay there. If you are 7 feet tall and have no luggage, it might be 10 minutes away, but after shlepping ourselves and our luggage to the hotel, I actually measured it on a map and it's over a mile away. Most people walk 3 miles per hour if they are walking a good clip without luggage so 10 minutes is an exaggeration at best. As a result, we opted to take a taxi to the airport the next day rather than shlepping all the way back to the Gare de Lyon and that trip was 20% more than the concierge told us it would be. When we got there, we were told there were no more double beds and they tried to put us in a room so small you had to move out of the way to close the door. When I asked to see an alternate room, to the surprise of the manager, room service had pushed two twin beds together so it made for a decent room with some space to move around. Plus points: it was quiet (maybe because we were high enough to escape street noise) and the neighborhood had many restaurants to choose from.
