“Once-monthly Wine Tasting Evening”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2012

This is held the first Monday of the month. Here is how it was described: "Evenings start at around 7:30 with a tasting flight of four wines during which the winemaker shares tales about the vintages he's pouring. The accompanying full-course meal, tailored to the wine choices (as opposed to vice versa) by Chef Desbordes, is a set 120 Euro."

Without a doubt, this was the # 1 dining experience / highlight of our time in Paris and I thought an extraordinary value. I would estimate there were about 20 of us in the downstairs section of the restaurant, which was set aside for this event. For the first hour, the wine maker would describe each wine, we would taste it, and then Marco Pelletier, the Head Sommelier at Le Bristol, would add his comments. This was accompanied with an array of hors d'oeuvres that were terrific.

While the talk was conducted in French, it was not hard for us to pick out key words that got across the key messages. Also, once Marco realized our French skills were limited, he was very good about coming over to us to give us a condensed English version of what was said.
We then sat down to the four course menu that was developed specifically to accompany the wine and that would then be available for the rest of the month in the restaurant. To our delight, we were seated on one side to the wine maker and his wife and on the other side to Marco. It turns out that the wine maker had studied at UC Davis and worked in Sonoma, so we had lots to talk about.

I can’t recommend this experience enough. We were made to feel extremely welcome. I would say that it probably helps to be a wine lover and to not be easily intimidated by an evening conducted primarily in French.

Dear Sir,

We are delighted that you had the chance of enjoying our once in a month wine evening (that take place every first Mondays of the month). Indeed, we are privileged to be welcoming a different winemaker monthly, and fortunate enough to have him talk passionately about its wine. It brings the experience to a different level, with other descriptions explicated by our charismatic chef sommelier.

Those events, as you rightly noticed, are exclusive and acclaimed by our regional guests. We do hope to be able to have you again in our restaurant, on a different occasion.

Best regards,

“Best meat dish ever and perfect service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

This place is amazing. We stayed at Bristol and got a table 10 min before last order on lunch. No problem at all. Never felt rushed, even ordered rib eye for 2 which said please allow 45 min. So had 2 beatiful starters. One asian touch of a langoustine ravioli and a platter og pata negra. Then we ordered a very nice red burgundy and then it came. A perfectly cooked and grilled rib eye on the bone. Was tranched by the table by a very nice waiter( maybe head witer), it came with a perfectly fluffy sauce bearnaise, poatato pure( also fluffy and perfect), a copper pan with grenouille potatoes, baked garlic and fresh grilled porcini. The presentation and flavour was outstanding.. We sat for a loong time and had another bottle of wine. The proffesional and friendly service with this food has to be world class.. Will return anytime.. Merci ;)

“Perfect chilled dinner with my mother”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

Was looking for a good place to have a simple and quiet dinner before heading back home after a long travel day: the 114 came to mind.

The new decor high in colors is wonderful. The dinning room opens early which enabled us to sneak in a dinner before everyone else made the place busy.

We both had a fish dish and both were amazing! Definitely try one fish entree at least.

“Outstanding service!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

The true value of this restaurant is its great service. Unfortunately, we did not know that reservations were needed/encouraged, but luckily when we walked in a table was available. The host that took care of us was Jonathan, a genuinely nice guy, who helped fit us into their dining schedule. Jonathan also made a couple of dish recommendations that were very good. We had the asparagus soup to start, then cod and veal. All tasted very good, although slightly more salty than I would have preferred but my taste buds are quite bland. The waitress was very attentive as well. The price lean towards the expensive side, but as many reviews suggest, you get what you pay for. Please also consider that we are coming from the States, so minus the exchange rate and the standard of living in Paris being above the US, the price is probably about right.

I wish I could have tipped them more, but I didn't understand how tipping worked with a credit card, since the receipt doesn't allow for tips to be entered, so I only left the little cash that I had.

Of note, while the restaurant does advertise as casual dining, all the guests were dressed more than casual. I would recommend at a minimum slacks and a tie for guys.

“Superb Food and Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2012

We ate twice at 114 Faubourg in September 2012 because we stayed at Hotel Le Bristol twice that month. Both meals were fabulous.

In my review of the hotel itself, I mentioned 114 Faubourg. On our second visit we ordered the steak which was finished on a mini grill at our table and carved there. It might be the best steak I have ever had, and I eat a lot of steak.

On both visits we had Ellie as our wine steward. She is great. She helped us pick two beautiful bottles of wine and each was memorable. But she herself was probably the friendliest wine steward we've ever had in all of Europe. She knows about wines, of course, but also food and history. She's a treasure.

114 Faubourg is fairly expensive, but worth every penny.

Dear Sir,

Your review is really heart-warming, and we cannot thank you enough for your kind comments about Emilie, our wine steward. She is indeed a young, talented and passionate professional, and a real asset to our team. The dish that you mentioned is indisputably a highlight of our menu, the meat being really tender, and carved by the table, to appreciate the beauty of the portion.

We do hope to be able to deserve your confidence again on your next visit to Paris.
