“Mixed Feelings”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2011

First I must say that the hotel location is perfect. You are right in the mix of everything you need to see on a trip to Paris. While the hotel location is great the hotel itself is average. The rooms were small, (even by Europe standards) and the elevator could barely fit two adults. Our room was clean but being that our room was so small it seemed dirty the second we settled it. The hotel lists that they have an airport shuttle. They do but it is run by an outside company with several pick-ups, (at other hotels) on your way to/from the airport. Make sure you account for this time. They charged 20 euros per person per way. They also offer a breakfest at the hotel but it is not free. It was 14 euros per person. The hotel does offer wifi which worked well. The service at the hotel was hit or miss. Everyone spoke english which was a big plus for us.

We had a room on the 5th floor with a small balcony. With beer being so expensive in Paris we ended up stopping at a nearby grocery store, (front desk clerk can direct you) and picked up some beverages. We enjoyed them while sitting on our balcony. This was probably the highlight of our hotel stay.

I don't want to discourage people from staying here. With so much to do in Paris you probably won't spend that much time in the hotel. It worked good for us for a 3-night stay. If our stay had been longer this hotel would not have worked for us. If you get a good price and don't plan on spending much time in your room this hotel might work well for you.

I stayed here for 5 nights in September 2011. The location was superb and convenient for sightseeing and shopping. It was also convenient for arrival by train from CDG airport even with luggage - it is a short and very manageable walk. The hotel is old-fashioned and the rooms are a comfortable size, not large, and furnishings are basic. The bathroom is small but functional. Everything was not fancy nor luxurious, but works and works well. Breakfast was good and inexpensive, front desk was very helpful, price was reasonable. At the end of the day, you just get the feeling you got good value for your money and you were comfortable in your stay.

There are many restaurants close by but I would particularly recommend Au Vieux Comptoir - a bit expensive but very good traditional French food and very good service - and L'Auberge Cafe - surprisinly modern take on French cooking, inexpensive set menu and everything was good.

The hotel itself is lovely and in a perfect location but our room was miniscule and expensive! We only stayed for 3 nights, if our stay were for more nights, we would have requested an upgrade to a larger room. Walls are a little thin too. The staff is friendly, helpful and everyone speaks English.

Room Tip: Wouldn't recommend the standard room for longer stays unless it's just for one person.

My husband and I have stayed here on two occasions and both times we had excellent experiences. The hotel is quaint and peaceful but in a wonderful location. As another reviewer said, although only rated 3 stars, we find it to be more in line with a 4 star hotel. The hotel is very comfortable and the staff is knowledgeable and eager to help/provide recommendations. We hope to return for more stays!

We stayed here for a few days in May on our honeymoon. When we arrived we were greeted by english speaking staff which was very helpful as my French is not the best! Our whole room had been decorated with roses and rose petals and we received a beautiful fruit basket, chocolates,a bottle of Moet and a lovely card.

The location of this hotel is fantastic, right across the road from the Chatelet Metro and close within very close walking distance of Notre Dame and the Louvre Museum.

The staff were very helpful and friendly and booked a tour and taxi to the airport for us with no problems. They even taught us a few french words.

I completely enjoyed my stay here and would definately stay here again if I go back to Paris. Thank you for making our stay so special!!

My second stay in this excellent property. The staff takes pride in addressing any issue that may come up, and this attitude makes for a relaxed, enjoyable stay. Again, my room (65) was very quiet. A 3-star hotel that has the look and feel (and service!) of a 4-star. And, of course, it could not be more centrally located.

Room Tip: Unfortunately, all singles are either streetside or next to elevator. For a quiet room, get a doubl...

Our first stay at Hotel Britannique was wonderful. It was our 20th anniversary and we arrived to find our small well-appointed sun lit room filled with red roses and candy in honor of our special occasion. After a long transatlantic flight we immediately felt comfortable at this very special hotel. The staff was friendly, informative, and never tiring ( or at least appearing to never tire!) of my many inquiries. We found the location to be perfect. Close to everything and on a broad quiet one-way street. The small superb bakery around the corner was the quintessential Paris experience.

Our trip to Paris was so lovely made even more so by our choice to stay at the Hotel Britannique, that we have already booked another stay for 2012, this time bringing friends to share the magic of this city and lovely hotel.

While this review may sound over the top I do tend to be honest and critical if warranted as seen in my past reviews of other hotels ....there was nothing to be critical of the Hotel Britannique. It really merits it's " excellent" rating.
