“OK hotel for Paris”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012

Recently stayed at the Best Western Albert Premier between july 3rd-july 8th. The hotel itself is very well situated if your taking the train into paris or out of paris. Just 5-6mins away from Gare du Nord, and 10mins away from Gare de l' est. Also, very close to the gare du nord metro station. But the area itself isn't the greatest, lots of people just hanging around on the streets and at times didn't feel very safe.
The room itself was very small just enough space for 2 people and 2 suitcases. But the room was clean and so was the bathroom. The breakfast was very good, had a good variety of food. The staff was nice and friendly, just didn't like the fact you have to leave the key at the desk when leaving the hotel. At night when returning to the hotel you need to ring the bell, since they lock the door to the entrance. All in all it was an ok hotel, if you need to catch a train then the hotel is for you, but the hotel itself is far from the city center and the metro ride to the center is about 20-25mins. I would not stay here if you're in paris to sightsee, there are plenty of other hotels closer to the city center.

Thank you for having taken the time to leave a comment of your stay.
We will share your remarks with the staff.

The area of "Gare du Nord" is very busy. The Hôtel Albert 1er is between two main stations. This is why we ask our guest to leave the key.

We hope to pleasure of welcoming you back soon in Paris.

Nadia

The hotel is located between Gare du Nord and Gare de l’Est train stations, literally just a few steps from each of them. I’ve selected this hotel based on its location: I had a train to catch the next morning and did not want to be too far from the station. The area around the stations is not exactly chick (let’s be honest about it – it is quite unattractive), but I knew that beforehand, so no complaints here.

The front desk was quite busy when I arrived around 7 pm but the whole registration process was smooth. My reservation was guaranteed with my credit card, so I was quite surprise that the front desk clerk asked for payment upfront and I had to declare if I was going to eat breakfast the following morning.

My room (#10) was on the first floor. It was quite small but perfectly satisfactory for a one night stay. Both room and bathroom were clean. There was absolutely no view to talk about: the window overlooked a grim courtyard and just outside my window there was a spiral emergency evacuation staircase. When I switched the lights off, I discovered that the green emergency exit sign above the window was illuminated, shining straight into my face – I wasn’t sure if I was in a hotel or interrogation room. The light really kept me awake for quite a while. I understand the sign is required by the fire code but there must be an alternative solution in the way the room is arranged.

There was a complimentary bottle of in the room water and a tea pot with the necessary supplies – both always appreciated. The hotel offers free WiFi which worked perfectly.

Breakfast in a tiny breakfast room was enjoyable. I particularly enjoyed the selection of pastries, all fresh and tasty.

Room Tip: Avoid room no. 10

Thank you for taking the time to give some feedback about your stay with us.
We are very happy to read that you enjoyed our location and the buffet breakfast with french pastries.
For your information The front desk do "Express check-out" for reservation of one night to avoid waiting at reception in the morning of the departure. Therefore we asked you to pay at the check-in.
Please do accept our apologies for exit sign but for security reasons we can not remove.
But we take into account your remark and all The Hôtel Albert 1er's team will be very happy to welcome you again.
Best regards,
Nadia.

Stayed here for one night - had an early train ride on the Eurostar to London. Very strange experience. Very small rooms. Hotel felt a little like a prison.

Strangest experiences:
- had to leave key with front desk when you go out (I know the front desk can always make new card keys and go into your room anytime but it felt like an invasion of privacy). Keys are also out in the open, at the rear opening of the check-in desk, clearly labelled on the wall - easy for someone to steal one and go up and take your things.
- kept my key anyway and headed out. Returned from dinner with clients at midnight. Had to knock on doors for 10 minutes until someone heard me and let me in.

Only redeeming quality: it is a block from Gare du Nord.

Room Tip: Elevator is tiny but lower floors are closer to the street so more safe if higher up?

We would like to thank you for the time your took to write your message.
We are sorry that you didn't really enjoy your stay with us.
For your information, we ask to leave the key at all our guest. Is a security measure in case of emergency. This way, we can know if the guest is in or outside. It's more convenient for clean the room, transfer phone call, take message or wait for a customer who will return later.
The front desk is open 24 hours but at midnight we close the doors for security.

Please rest assured that the confort and the satisfaction of our guest are our first preoccupations. We thank you for you understanding and for helping us to improvethe quality of our service.

Regards,
Nadia

I took the Eurostar from St Pancras to Gard du Nord late afternoon and planned to continue my journey the following morning. The Albert Premier was a few minutes walk from the station and easy to find. The reception staff were efficient, the room small, clean and functional. The breakfast room was not big enough for the number of guests. If I wanted to stop overnight near the Gard du Nord, I would use the Albert Premier again. However, I don't think I would want to spend several nights there, as the staff lacked warmth and the hotel felt cramped.

Location is good, just a few mins walk from the train station. Yes, the location is a little shady but we had no problems and never felt threatened. Room was small but adequate for a short stay. Bathroom small but modern. Staff were friendly enough. Would recommend for a short stay in Paris!

Staff was friendly and helpful; lovely triple room with 2 bathrooms! Just a short block walk to Gare du Nord/Eurostar; small market across the street for snacks. yoghurt, etc; small elevator - we went up in shifts; do not rent car at Gare du Nord - getting out of Paris is a confusing labyrinth; next time we're renting from the airport.

Room Tip: triple room on the 4th floor was quiet and had 2 bathrooms
