The only nice thing in our room was a relatively large bathroom. However, the bed room was cramped, the beds very uncomfortable, and the noise was really bothersome.
Breakfast was fine and the desk relatively helpful
My wife and I stayed at the Sully for our third year in a row. This time we were there from 4/28-5/8. When we walked in, M. Moulay at the front desk recognized us at once from our last stays. It was like "old home week" again. This year we used Rm. 28 because my wife wanted the old stone wall look...she's an artist, that's why. The room was quite comfortable and well maintained...a little small by U.S. travel comparisons. The bathroom was small but well maintained. if you want a little bigger room, ask M. Moulay or M Talib at the front desk is #26 is available.
As usual, we simply loved our stay at the Sully. If you do not have much French, the staff is multi-lingual and quite willing to help you in any way they can. If we can return to France again next year, we will surely stay at the Sully...you betcha'....
My niece and I stayed at this Hotel for 10 days at the end of March as part of her college graduation gift. Our rooms were a nice size and very charming and comfortable. Our flight came in early in the morning so a room was not yet available but the hotel has a luggage room available and we left our bags and went across the street for some breakfast at a cafe and then came back and hung out and read books in what we felt was a comfortable lobby. As rooms came open the staff allowed us to view first and then decide which room we would stay in. We chose the second room we looked at which had two twin beds, writing desk, TV, Bath tub, large seperate shower, double mirrored closet with a mini fridge and free safe. We left things like extra money, passport and cameras in the safe and never worried about anything being stolen. We stayed in room number 3 at the back of the hotel and would recommend it to anyone.
We found the front desk very helpful. My niece was trying to finish a college paper in the evening and we were able to connect our laptop to the hotels free wireless access, the Hotel does have on computer for guest in a small room past reception that also includes a pay phone. When my niece needed to print something the front desk was very helpful about giving her paper and she used the hotels printer and computer in this room. In addition they mailed off post cards for us and just billed the stamps to our hotel room at the stamps face value. We did not go with the hotels shuttle service but another (Paris Shuttle) that we booked when we booked our flights but we told the hotel who we were using and they made arrangements for our pick up for our return flight. They graciously helped carry our luggage to our room on the 3rd floor which in the US is the 2nd floor because they did not have an elevator for rooms we stayed in.
As for the location we could not have hoped for better. Your closest landmarks are going to be the Pantheon, Notre Dame and Luxembourg Gardens. If you are in average shape you can walk to most any place in Paris, which we did. We did take the train to Versailles one day and two tickets round trip cost us 11 euros, we were very glad we skipped the tours as Versailles took much longer to get through than four hours and we enjoyed our selves much more being able to view at our own pace. We save money this way also.
There is a cafe right across the street which is nice for reading a book and sipping a glass of wine or hot chocolate which we did both, they make a great onion soup. Not far away is Rue Mouffetard which is a market street that has just about everything and on the weekends you enjoy the musicians playing on the street corners. We enjoyed the bakeries and stopping at the cafes for hot chocolate and coffee in the mornings, we always picked up extra items like crouisants and fruit and took them back to our hotel room for snacking on throughout the day. Mouffetard also has lots of shops selling items like scarfs and boots which it seems are standard attire in Paris during the spring( - : In the evening's we were often lured back for Gelati d'Alberto--so much better than American ice cream and you get to pick multiple flavors and they layer it on an ice cream cone like a rose petal.
I could go on forever but my main point is this, the hotel is very nice, the staff was very nice, it was clean and I searched and read reviews for over six months and I don't think I could have found a better hotel for the price. I do recommend that you get a superior room and we booked straight with the hotels web site and it actually cost less than any of the booking sites like expedia that gave higher rates and did not even list a superior room. We only found that the front desk spoke English though it did not matter because the front desk was always very helpful.
My husband and I stayed in Sully Saint Germain Hotel for 4 nights in March-April 2009. We were in Paris for my birthday and our anniversary, so it was a very special holiday. The hotel is super easy to get to from the central train station, as we were coming into Paris via London. A few stops on the Metro, a quick walk from the station. The hotel is located on a semi quiet block. We had a room on the sixth floor… and let me tell you it is by far the smallest room we have ever stayed in, even in Europe. The bed was terrible and the pillows worse. We didn’t elect for the breakfast which was super expensive and was the bare minimum. We elected to eat at a local bakery or the diner down the block.
The help at the front desk depends on who you get, but they refused to provide an extra towel when requested. However, I spotted the chamber maid and requested one from her and she was very happy to provide. Every day she supplied an extra towel.
They only provided super expensive places to eat…don’t do it.
There are a few bakeries around and a supermarket right around the corner and if you keep walking down the street past the supermarket you will find a very famous street (Rue Mouffetard), which has fantastic places to hang out and eat, and another supermarket. Pricing was average for the city and given we were there when it was still considered off-season. On a final note the lobby is very cozy and pretty.
