We Pricelined a 3 star hotel in the Montmartre region and wound up at the Exclusive Hotel Caravelle. I guess this i what I get for Pricelining. Very underwhelming, easily the least nice place we stayed in France.
It wasn't horrible, it just had basically zero charm. Pros: great location (just a block from the Pigalle metro stop, easy walk up the hill into Montmartre proper, tons of other nice/cute stuff for PIgalle/Montmartre neighborhoods just outside the door), free wifi, very nice people work @ the desk (our first stop in France, and already busting the myth that French people aren't nice) and they speak English if you need. Cons: elevator is probably the smallest you have ever been in (it can fit two very close people and maybe their bags) and covered with '70s style airport Ramada carpeting on the walls, room is clean enough, but pretty barren, no electrical sockets (had to unplug the lamp to plug in phone), paper thin walls (could literally hear people breathing next door), no safe in room (in their defense, almost nowhere I stayed in France had this), and our toilet continually ran/broke.
Also, we faced a somewhat cute/somewhat depressing courtyard, from which we could hear one guy snoring (so loud) every night and another guy coughing his brains out and blowing his nose.
In short, the location is great and the people are nice, which is saying a lot. But I'm pretty sure with even the slightest amount of work you could find something nicer for the price. God I hope you can. I mean, they give you the remote to your sad little TV stuck up in the corner of the room like at a hospital and tell you that if you don't return that remote when you leave you aren't properly checked out. I felt like I was Tom Hanks in Big when he first takes that horrible room in NYC.
Seriously, I need someone to explain the hotel star rating system in France because we stayed at several two stars that were handily nicer than this one. Don't get it.
