I recently won a trip to Paris for three days and the Hotel Napoleon was part of that package. After reading the mixed reviews of the hotel I was curious to see what my experience would bring. Upon check-in, I was pleasantly surprised, everyone was very accommodating, friendly and professional. As I was traveling with a friend rather than spouse, the reception desk said they did not know this, as a double room was booked and informed us they would separate the beds for us. Which they did before we returned to the room.

Upon entering the room, it was nice, and by European standards (most are small) it was adequate. How much time do you really spend in your room in Paris? When we requested extra pillows and ice, both we brought to us promptly. The decor was nice at first look, but a little worn in areas, nothing that turned us off to the hotel. The room was a little warm, even though we had rain and cool weather outdoors, but the windows opened to the courtyard and it was very pleasant.

As for the bathroom, it was a good size and very nicely done. The one problem we had was the shower, since there was only a small glass partition, rather than an enclosure, flooded the bath the first morning. After that, we simply had to be more cautious when showering. Again, not a big problem.

We had the breakfast buffet included with our room and were very satisfied. There was ample selections of hot foods, Bacon, Scrambled Eggs, Potatoes, Hard cooked Eggs, crepes and more. They also had a very nice selection of fruits, vegetables and yogurts and juices. The coffee was excellent.

The location was perfect, it is one block from the Charles De Gaulle/ Etoile metro station and the Arc de Triomphe. Within a few blocks walking you are in the middle of Champs -Elysses and all the shopping and restaurants.

Overall I would stay here again and would recommend it to a friend.

My husband and I booked a "junior suite avenue" on the hotels website. I had requested a view of the Eiffel Tower from our terrace. Check in was efficient and polite. Two porters accompanied us to our car in the underground garage next door and took our luggage to the room. As we got off the elevator on to our floor the carpet was taped over because they were doing renovations down the hall. We did have a view of the Eiffel Tower from our terrace. The terraces are not private or separated from the adjacent rooms in any way.

The room was spacious enough but there was a bad smell in the bathroom. It went away but the bathroom wasn't exactly cleaned the next day. The towels were a bit old and didn't smell very pleasant. The first night we received no turn down service, which wouldn't ordinarily be a problem, but we had to search for our pillows as they were not on the bed.

The lobby and lounge areas are very nice and everyone we encountered was polite. The location is excellent. However, I don't think I would recommend it.

We have stayed at the Napoleon many times over the years and never been disappointed. We recognize up front that the room sizes may be smaller than U.S. standards, so usually we upgrade to the suite. This time we just took the regular room and were very pleased. The bed was comfortable not like stone in some hotels of Europe. Towels were plentiful and constant. Staff has always spoken fluent English and never let us down with directions or help, including umbrellas for the rain. Can't wait til next year.

We went for a mid week break and had a wonderful experience, I think we where lucky and had a recently re-furbished room, the room was small but perfectly decorated and clean. The Hotel staff where very helpful, I gave the Porter a small tip once he struggled with our bags and he was very happy and decide to show me the features of the room, safe, Mini Bar etc. When we came back to our room each evening the bed had been turned down and a chocolate on our pillow, this may have been as I mentioned it was our anniversary but a nice touch.

Location was perfect, Just by “Arc de Triomphe” and the Metro.

While I greatly enjoyed the non-hotel aspect of our trip to Paris, the hotel was such a disspointment. From the moment we arrived the hotel staff was downright rude. We had heard the rooms were small, so we asked the receptionist if there was a room to upgrade to. she immeditely shot back "not for free!"...we did not indicate that we even expectated a complementary upgrade!!! Once we arrived in-room, we immediately noticed the falling down wallpaper, chunks missing from the plaster/drywall, and the furniture was completely ruined (scuffing, discoloration, etc.), not to mention the view out our window was of a mildewy courtyard and green tarp and scaffolding covering the entire building, preventing any view. I truly think we may have been put in the worst room in the whole place...but if you read other reviews--it sounds like this might be the condition of the entire hotel. Later in our stay we called down to the front desk, first speaking in French and then asking them to speak in English, as we did not understand, whether or not they could reccomend a good restaurant. They initially reccomended the in-house hotel restaurant, but when we asked if they would reccomend somewhere outside of the hotel, the response was, "Why would you want to eat anywhere else, we have everything right down here!". Turn down service was skipped for one night of our 3 night stay. Also, the restaurant's breakfast (which was included in our stay) was not worth it (even free of charge)--poor food quality--why would ANYONE spend $35 Euros on that?
Additionally, we were told by e-mail before our trip that they offered free/complementary wireless internet--sure enough, the internet was not free and charged at a rate of 6 Euro every 15 minutes!!! Truly, if you do not find an AMAZING deal on this hotel ($120 Euros or less), don't bother--it deserves only 2 of 5 stars.
