Stayed a Friday and Saturday night at the Waldorf Trocadero. I, an American who speaks a bit of French, was traveling with French friends, so that might have made things a tad smoother for me (if you've been to Paris, you might know what I'm talking about).
My room was very pretty, nicely-appointed, comfortable, and quiet. Tiny, though...But that's Paris. A not-quite-queen-sized bed, with just-enough room on either side of it to maneuver. A small desk at the foot of the bed, and a decent-sized closet. Bathroom was very nice, a good shower (with a full door...None of that 'water all over the floor' phenomenon one seems to encounter at lots of European hotels). A good TV with CNN included.
The hotel is located about 10 minutes by foot from the Trocadero. A few cafes there, and a few restaurants between the hotel and there, but for the most part, this part of town is very sparse in terms of action, very 'banker's hours'...Offices and the like. Some interesting book shops and antique shops, too. At the same time, though, very peaceful, and certainly very pretty, with the Eiffel Tower poking up above the buildings in many areas around the hotel. Easy to get lost around here, as it all looks the same. You can also walk to the Arc du Triomphe, which takes about 20 minutes, I'd say.
Upon check-in, the only problem was...of all things...the toilet. It had a conspicuous 'reminder' of the previous guest on the bottom of the seat. Figuring they'd be mortified at the most basic of housekeeping gaffes (and since damn...That's just nasty), I told the front desk, and (with appropriately-mortified looks on their faces) said they'd have it cleaned. When I returned a couple of hours later...Nope...Still there. I cleaned it myself. No other issues of a 'basic hygiene' nature past that, though.
Breakfast was very good. Anything you'd want, with a cheery pour of 'the beverage of your choice' from a waitress. The lounge is quiet and comfortable, with a good selection of art books, and daily copies of the International Herald Tribune.
Staff was helpful, both in arranging reservations, as well as in checking in and out. Everyone spoke good English, and in one encounter, I watched one of the attendants seamlessly juggling French, English, and Spanish with a few people.
A very nice stay overall. My only reservation is the location of the hotel. If it's peace and quiet you want, you could do no better. But if you intend to do a lot of exploring of Paris by foot, you'd probably find yourself hitting the metro to get to a different part of town for that.
