We stayed here for 1 night in September 2008. We booked it through Hotwire as a 3* hotel in the Gare du Nord/Republique zone. The hotel itself is rated a 3* in Paris.
Room:
Fairly decent-sized compared to other 3* hotels I've stayed in Paris. The bedroom measures about 10'x15' and the bathroom is spacious with a full size tub. Our double bed is a queen-sized bed. Decor is okay. No in-room safe. No A/C as far as I can tell.
Our room faces the street (Rue Petion) but the street is quiet at night. However, the hotel is close enough to the main road round the corner and we could hear traffic noise all through the night (cars and motorcycles zipping by).
Like other Paris hotels, walls are thin so we can hear the elevator and the guests in the neighboring room.
Breakfast:
It is a buffet breakfast, which is a bonus. There is plenty of bread, croissant, juice, coffee/tea, yogurt, several types of cereal, and 2 kinds of cold cuts. No hot food.
Location:
It is located near the Voltaire metro stop (2-min walk) which is served by Metro Line 9. Not a very useful line as one needs to change line at least once to get to the usual touristy sights. There are a few bus lines that serve the hotel as well. We find the bus #69 the most useful (better than Metro) as it has a stop at Voltaire, goes thru the Marais, then to the Louvre, then cross the river to St Germain, and all the way to Eiffel Tower.
To get to the hotel from CDG airport, we chose to take the RER from CDG to Gare du Nord. Then, instead of changing for the metro (which involves 2 lines), we opted to take the #46 bus. It was easy to find the bus stop at Gare du Nord, and as it is the terminal for #46, we had seats on the bus. The bus goes directly to Voltaire so we didn't have to carry our luggage up/down stairs if we had taken the metro. The ride took almost 30 minutes but this was during Friday morning rush hour.
Neighborhood:
The area nearby the hotel is rather nondescript. It doesn't have any of the charm like the 4th or the 6th arrondissements. One advantage is that Père-Lachaise cemetery is just down the street from the hotel, if that's a site that interests you.
Bottom Line: This is an okay hotel, however, I would not choose to stay here unless I want to be in the 11th arrondissement for some reason. For the rate this hotel charges, I think one can find a similar hotel in one of the single-digit arrondissements which has a nicer ambience.
