We have used this Hotel regularly over the last few years as it is well positioned on the Metro for the Palais des expsitions (direct line) unfortunately it has steadily gone down hill in that period of time. We book a large number of room for our clients and there were issues with almost every booking. It's become standard practice to check the rooms before agreeing to them as they will always try and palm you off with the worst ones first. Saving the best ones for French guests.
Just getting the booking in the first place was hard enough as this seems to be the only hotel in the world that increases it's per nightly charge when you want to book a lot of rooms and doesn't decrease them! In the lead up we were quoted one price then sent a bit of email advertising offering cheaper rooms for our stay 24 hours later! It's like the differing departments don't even talk to one another!
The rooms themselves are generally outdated although some have been modernised, the internet is, as others have said, truly appalling and the concierge is comfortably one of the most unhelpful, surly chaps I have ever come across. Looking at you like you're an idiot for daring to ask how to get to a restaurant! It became a bit of a joke within our party by the end of our stay.
Plus points are that the breakfast is excellent and the staff on duty for that are usually brilliant....quite why they aren't utilised in other areas of the Hotel is beyond me! It's close to the Metro and it is a beautiful, historic building. The bar area and staff are very good too assuming your happy to pay 4 times what you would pay for a glass of identical wine in a bar 50 yards away!
Minus points are that the concierge is dreadful, the room service is astronomically priced, even compared to more expensive hotels in Paris, the rooms are old and the bookings dept are inept. We've stuck with this Hotel for a few years in the hope that the 'next time' will be better but it never has been.
If you can get a nice room at a sensible rate then it's ok but not much more than that. I've certainly stayed in worse hotels but they've never charged the rates the Lutetia does.
Just make sure you check your room first and decline anything that is not up to standard, they'l...
