“slowest internet ever”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2013

550 Euros ($720) for a small single -not fancy at all- room. The view on the courtyard is ok. Tiny slow and crowded elevator. And the slowest, slowest internet connection ever. No kidding. I was trying to upload 2 photos of flickr, it took about 45 minutes, and that was my 4th attempt as I was every time disconnected. Impossible to watch a youtube video. Impossible to make a skype call. I called 3 times the IT service they stopped answering. To access the business area, they give you a 30 minute paper token. This is the middle ages. I thought I was in moder Paris. I am leaving this hotel. Rubbish. Thank god I am not paying for this room.

Ι visit Paris a couple times every year.
I usually stay at this hotel and unfortunately each year is worse. In January I went last time I had booked triple deluxe room with a very high price.
The third person sleeps on an extra bed. Towels, bathrobes were available only for 2 guests.
The staff was helpful enough. The breakfast was excellent as always.
The hotel location is very good. It is one of my favorite hotels in Paris and hope to do something for the rooms that are so old and crappy.

I had the opportunity to see 3 different room categories and I have to say that the pictures showed in the hotel's website do not represent the reality of the cheapest category available. The room is by far worse. We had to ask for an upgrade and the hotel kindly accepted. The nwe room was very spacious, comfortable and clean.
The hotel is big and there is a lot of movement of guest. They also have a nice bar with live music.
Wifi connection works very well in the lobby and room.
Breakfast is very good.

Stayed there for a week in May. Upgraded ourselves to a junior suite at additional cost. Food expensive and less than impressive. Michelin Star ??$$??. Paid €50 for a basket of stale pastries which were only fit for a game of lawn bowls. Better eating at local cafes. Heating didn't work - was told it was only cooling - really??!!!! Finally received a heater after a looonnng wait and many tall stories. Concierge of NO ASSISTANCE and delighted in shutting doors in our faces and watching us cart our own bags. In short. While a great location the service was appalling. I'm sure you can do better.

This opion is written with decades-long experience as a travel industry executive who placied multiple groups beginning in early 1970s at the Lutetia, then owned by the Taittinger Group. Built in 1910, the end of the Art Nouveau period, the hotel's impressive exterior looks Art Nouveau, but for decades its interior decor has been a failed attempt at Art Deco, with vulgar, neon-wrapped lighting and other inappropriate decor lacking in style and purpose. But let's start at the entrance with its thin, soiled, inexpensive carpeting beneath decades-old stained fabric canopies, and no doorman - at least not at the time of check-in. It gets worse. A small lobby with front and conceriege desks looking unchanged from 40 years ago, continues to joyless and foreboding public spaces. Even the Nazi's, who occupied the hotel during the war, would recognize almost everything, especially the single-passenger lift occupying one end of the lobby. It operates, or is supposed to operate, by pulling the door and squeezing-in, except when checking-out that is. The lift refused to function, trapping one unwary guest inside for punishing minutes and contributing to a missed international flight. (There are two slightly larger lifts at the other end of the lobby.) Above, neglect is immediately evident in the creaking, dark halls, painted walls, carpet tears and stains, although it gets better in the room, but not by much. Room #365, in a back courtyard with views of the rear of another building, is generously sized by Paris hotel standards, and the original handle-operated windows at least operate. However, the rows of exhaust fans noisely and intermittently operating on the first floor of the courtyard, also contribute to an intermittent sleep. No power-points or outlets require charging 21st Century devices by borrowing a converter from housekeeping and crawling on the well-worn chocolate colored carpeting to locate the single 240 volt outlet intended for the vacuum cleaner. At least the large HD TV is a modern touch, although incongrously perched on the mini-bar that itself is placed off-center, so it can deliberately irritate guests paying enormously inflated prices for a hotel that is part of the venerable Concorde Hotels chain. (And there are no radio channels, but at least the WI-FI is free.) The torn, carpeted luggage platform juts into the room like an unwelcome guest, which is how many may feel in realzing that the Concorde chain also operates the esteemed Crillon Hotel and other world-famous hotels in Paris and France. Actually, Concorde doesn't own the hotel; they only market it for the financial benefit and benign neglect of its Israeli owners, who may or may not begin the first of three years of needed - no desperately urgent - renovation in 2014. The once inviting Lutetia Brasserie on the corner of Rue Sevres and Rue Babylone, was itself crudely carpeted long ago, lit with inexpensive oversize globe fixtures, and features a mediocre menu with inflated prices. Example: a modest meal with one beer cost an astonishing $122 for one person. Instead, walk 10 minutes to the charming Mediterrane Restaurant on the Place D' l'Odeon; it's less than half the price with twice the appeal and excellent fresh seafood. Buffet breakfast at the Lutetia is an extraordinary $37 approximately and little more than basic, although eggs can be ordered on request at no additional charge. In summation, the Lutetia does not deserve its government 4 star deluxe rating, is fundamentally lacking in modern comforts, and is priced far beyond its modest capabilities. Consider $481 minimum per night plus occupancy tax for a standard room in October 2013, or $580 for a deluxe room (although nothing is deluxe about the hotel), and invest more wisely at one of numerous hotels of charm and character all around the St. Germanin des Pres area. Regretably, until the once grand de la Rive Gauche is fully renovated it cannot be recommended.

This was our first time visiting Paris, and although we could of stayed in 5 star hotels with the help of friends who work for the bigger chain hotels we opted to stay here. The best choice we ever made! I was really looking for the whole Parisian experience, this Hotel has it all. We had exceptional service, Thomas from the front desk went above and beyond to make our celebration memorable. And I can't forget to mention our other Thomas at the Concierge Desk. From someone who offers Concierge Service herself as her business back home (Miami- BLU Concierge) Thomas 2 as I call him had the best suggestions and he took his time to explain everything. As I sit here in the lobby of this Historic Hotel yet chic writing this review, all I can say is; thank u God for this amazing time and experience.

Room Tip: If money is not an issue go for the junior suite 245 you won't regret it!
