“Incompetently shocking staff and management”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

This hotel has now taken the number one spot in our list of worst hotels we've stayed in, and we travel many times a year and stay in many hotels all over the world. We try to stick to the Accor group where it suits, however this hotel should be swiftly ejected from that group.

The hotel building itself is ok, we stayed in a top floor loft room, however there is no room which gets you away from the large scale construction going on all sides of the building. Extremely noisy everywhere on every side, with another year to go before it's finished.

The location itself is not too bad, however the immediate vicinity is very 'multicultural' and a little rough at night. Anytime you want to go out, you need to walk 6 blocks away at least to get to a nice area or wait for a taxi.

Where this hotel really falls short is the complete lack of any competency of both the management and the staff. We stayed there for 6 nights and it took them 4 days to sort out a mini bar fridge which would work - we had crucial medicine with us which needed to be kept cold at all times, but between the house keeping staff, the reception and then the management, it took four days and what seemed like hours of hassles to get it sorted out. They just couldn't get it together.

The breakfast room is far too small for the capacity of the hotel, and there were very lengthy delays in getting seated for breakfast - don't pay for breakfast as part of the room rate, walk a few blocks up the road to a cafe. As well, the breakfast that was on offer in the buffet was very much below par. France, the country of beautiful food, Novotel, the hotel of rubbish food.

On two occasions we ordered a taxi at the front desk to get to pre arranged dinner reservations at restaurants, only to be told to sit in the foyer and they would let us know when the taxi arrived. 15 minutes later we checked how it was going to be told that the taxi driver came in, the clerk called our room and as we weren't there (because we were told to wait in the foyer by the same clerk) that taxi left and we missed our reservations.

These may all seem like small issues, however I can just assure everyone it is a small example of the complete incompetence and unprofessional conduct of the staff and management.

I will never stay here again and will certainly be writing to the Accor group and letting them know how bad it was.

Great hotel, situated near many attractions, walking distance to Louvre, Notre Dame, many cafes and restaurants. Staff were very helpful and always willing to help. Rooms were typical Novotel standard and I had a small balcony which was great. Would recommend this hotel.

Great location if your a builder. This hotel is completely surrounded by construction sites. The rooms are nice, but stuffy. No air conditioning. Cannot leave the windows open unless your happy listening to jack hammers. Access to shops and restaurants is good. Close to attractions. We were not told about any construction work when we made our booking. While we cannot hold the hotel responsible for this, it didn't gives a very good impression for our first visit to Paris. Decor in rooms looks very IKEA style.

Room Tip: There is major construction being carried out around this hotel.

Recently stayed 3 nights. While the hotel is situated within walking distance of Notre Dame, Louvre, etc., it is in a very busy neighborhood with construction adjacent to the hotel. The problem arose from a lack of air conditioning in the hotel. We were instructed to open our window. Unfortunately, there was a constant stream of foot traffic extending through the late evening into the early morning from nearby restaurants and bars. And I mean traffic ALL NIGHT. Twice awoken to knock-down, drag-out arguments between inebriated couples. Then, when all that stopped, construction would start in the early A.M.

Otherwise, the hotel was fantastic. The staff was good, accommodations and price reasonable, particularly for such an excellent location in Paris. Would be a good option- just make sure it's either dead of winter or middle of summer when your windows won't have to be open.

Room Tip: Stay off the first floor

This hotel isn't what your Paris dreams are made of, it isn't pretty or boutique but it is excellent! The location, staff and value are fantastic. We were here on business but also tacked on a holiday with our 9 year old travelling with us. This is a really good option for families as it has a game room for kids. The adjoining bar means parents can have a relax while kids are within eye-sight. The breakfast is fantastic and once again a real kid pleaser. The rooms are pretty standard. It's the location you can't fault - The Louvre is a stroll in one direction and The Pompidou in the other. We actually had our second half booked in another hotel but it was a disaster and we promptly returned to the Novotel! I would happily stay here again.
