We chose this hotel because of the price and the fact that it seemed to be one of the few hotels that could accomodate a family of four. It was also recommended by Rick Steve's so that gave us a bit of confidence. We were placed on the 6th flr with one double bed, a twin alcove bed and a rollaway. I had requested a view and this room faced Ave. Tourville and it was actually a pretty view of the neighborhood. The room was very small and with the roll-away it was a very tight squeeze. The carpet was pretty dirty and the door would not close properly---it looked as though there was a slight gap between the floor and the door so my husband placed folded paper that filled the gap and kept the door from shaking everytime another door on the floor shut. It was pretty dark, particularly in November, but we were not in it too much. The staff was mostly helpful and friendly. When we asked for "American" pillows they did have them and gave us plates to eat in our room after a long day. They also held our luggage willingly since we arrived before check in and had planned a day trip out of the city, and for check out since our train did not go to Italy until 8pm day of departure--they also allowed us a little later check out which helped as I wasn't sure we could manage such a long day with children. The maid service was not very helpful, and although I speak enough french to communicate she said there was nothing she could do about broken hairdryer, and pretended not to understand me, although when we asked her to vacuum since it obviously had not been done, she did oblige. Oh well, had we stayed longer than 3 days it may have been a problem, but it really did not bother us. We loved the location, as evenings we were able to get out and walk, either to Le Eiffel or Hotel de Invalides (Napoleon's Tomb). It was about a 15 min. walk to RER C that took us to Versailles and a 5 min. walk to metro that takes one to Louvre and Notre Dame. Although our rm was pretty old it actually, along with the Hotel had alot of charm. We enjoyed the idea of a 100 yr old(?) building. Over all the price and LOCATION made this a good choice for us. The first few days we stayed at Comfort Hotel Davout Nation and our stay improved once we moved to Hotel Turenne simply because of the location.

This hotel is reasonably priced and in a great location. It is just a block or two from: a metro stop, good restaurants, Rue Cler shopping area, several sidewalk cafes for afternoon lounging, and must see tourist sites. The staff was attentive and friendly but not overly solicitous arranging transportation to and from airports. The room/bath were very clean and well maintained. Also the lift worked regularly (we were on the 5th floor). We kept the windows open each night which provided a little street noise, but when they were closed it was very quite. Five of us were traveling together; we all enjoyed our stay, would recommend this hotel to our friends, and plan to stay here on our next trip to Paris.

PROS:
The location was perfect. Short walk to the tower. Near restaurants, transportation. We had no problems with the staff. Mr. Humberto was extremely helpful and accommodating. He was very helpful in giving us information about the city, attractions, transportation etc... He spoke Portuguese, which was great since some of our family traveling with us is from Brazil. Upon arrival it was raining and the lady at the reception let us borrow 2 umbrellas. The hotel has a nice reception and lounge area, which seems to have been recently renovated. But that’s about it.

CONS:
Our room was a triple. It was located on the 6th floor ( last floor). When I saw that room I almost cried in disappointment. I couldn't believe that I was actually going to have to sleep in that creepy place for 4 nights. The furniture was very cheap. The carpet was filthy with stains, worn and torn. The walls were dirty and had this horrible brownish color to it. The curtains were falling off the window. Totally depressing! The bathroom, although old, was relatively clean. They advertise as having AC but it was turned off and the lady said it wasn't warm enough to turn it on. That room was stuffy and moldy smelling with no ventilation. On one of the warmer days they told us that the system had been turned on, but it didn't work in our room.
My 11 year old son woke up on the 1st morning with a rash on his arms, we figured out that it was from the blanket on the bed.
The elevator is extremely small and filthy. I don't think it's been cleaned in ages. Once you leave the reception to go upstairs to the rooms everything is old, worn, dark, dirty, and smelly.
My mother-in-law and aunt stayed in a double room on the 2nd floor. The decor was a little more cheerful and seemed like it had been recently painted, but the carpet was still nasty.

  • Liked — The staff
  • Disliked — Old dingy rooms. Nasty worn and stained carpets.

Our family of five (myself, husband and 3 children ages 8,9 and 11) just arrived home after a six-night stay. We enjoyed our stay very much. We booked connecting rooms 18 and 19 on the third floor. Room 18 had a double bed and a larger bathroom with a shower. Room 19 had 3 single beds with an unusually large bathroom with a free standing tub with shower head and a double sink. The rooms were cleaned everyday and we were given clean towels everyday. When we asked the front-desk staff for help, they were very friendly and kind to us. However, they seem to be pretty busy so don't expect a hug everytime you walk in the door. We especially enjoyed the location. We walked every place that we could, especially since we were eating a lot more than we usually do. We walked to Rue Cler every morning to buy baguette, cheese, and fruit. All the foods were amazing. We did bring the food back to our hotel room each morning, however, we were sure to not make a mess and to remove the trash after we were finished eating. Overall, this hotel is a great find. It was more than we expected for a 2-star hotel in this prime location. We will definetly return.

Stay here at your own risk. We traveled in from Switzerland and stayed here over the winter holiday and had over 1,000 USD of personal items stolen from our room. Despite the fact that it was clearly not a random theft (the thief actually took their time to select what items to take) we received absolutely no help from the hotel.

Over the course of the past two+ months we have tried without avail to contact and discuss with management any possibility of getting very simple and available information to file an insurance claim. The result? Absolutely nothing. Not even the decency to discuss the matter further or the filing of a simple report to the local police.

Granted, the location may be ideal for some but stay here only if you want to be absolutely ignored on your holiday and be in a place where you will receive limited or no support in the event of an emergency (or even a minor situation for that matter).
