“Poor booking system”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2013

I would really have liked to be able to write a positive review about this charming-looking hotel but unfortunately I never got to stay there due, almost entirely, to their poor booking system. Early in January I attempted to reserve a double room for three nights in May. I received a response from the hotel stating that it was too early to book for May. (I must admit I wondered why they couldn't just use a reservation system like everyone else.) I duly requested a reservation after 15 January as I was instructed only to be told they had no room in May. Couldn't they have already told me on 9 January if they were full in May? Why couldn't my booking have been carried over to 15 January? I am very disappointed and now have to set out again searching for suitable accommodation. Not happy!

This hotel is tucked away behind large doors in a courtyard. There are two buildings, one of which contains the Reception and Breakfast Room with both having rooms.

The room we had was on the top floor of the second building across the courtyard. It was quiet, and notably had no television (not a problem for us at all, but rather rare these days). The decor was an old fashioned floral wallpaper which played to our idea of a Paris from the past. The bed a on the small side for two, but perfectly acceptable. The small bathroom was clean, and there was a good shower over the bath.

Breakfast for €9 included a pot of tea or coffee, a roll, croissant and two pastries with butter and jam. Though basic it was perfectly adequate.

This hotel was not expensive, and provided a bed to sleep in and breakfast in the morning. Since we merely required somewhere to sleep at night, it served the purpose perfectly.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and perfectly happy to speak English to those whose schoolboy french was somewhat rusty.

The Hotel is just charming! The staff keeps a friendly and joyful environment and makes our stay really happy. It's the fourth time we stay in this wonderful spot and we just love it! We feel at home everytime we come to Paris. A lovely garden welcomes the guests and has flowers even in winter. The rooms are well cared and the bathrooms are extremely neat. It is not a luxury hotel, it does not have TV, mini bar,..., but it has all we wanted for a perfect stay in Paris: excellent location, a great variety of restaurants nearby, easy access to all main monuments and museums, friendly staff -also to our small children and clean and comfortable rooms. We intend to always return to this place that we keep in our hearts!

Room Tip: The rooms with a garden view tend to be smaller but they are more silent and pleasant.

A friend recommended this hotel as she stays here frequently. It was a pleasant surprise to walk off the street, through the gates and find this oasis of charm. The hotel provides everything one could want, with no frills.
The accommodation is clean, attractive and comfortable. The staff are friendly and helpful and the breakfast, which is continental is served efficiently.
I like to walk and the location allows for this but I would recommend good walking shoes!
The restaurants nearby were a disappointment. On the second evening of our stay we ate closer to the centre of Paris.

Located in the 5th Arr. the Latin Quarter is a lively and charming area with many cobbled streets, an array of restaurants, cafes, gardens and marvelous architecture... Well this IS Paris.... The hotel is situated in a grand private courtyard with trees and landscaped gardens, sitting out in the morning sun with a delicious continental breakfast, it is hard to believe there is a Capital city outside of this tranquil place. The staff here are courteous and mostly multi-lingual, English is certainly not a problem. The rooms are classically French, and always spick and span. The published tarif rate is €120 - €150 and this is for the room, single or double occupancy, remember this is a very popular hotel in a central location. There is a private garage adjacent, and costs €30 per day / night. They accept pets, and there is Wi-Fi. My personal choice for Paris Centre. http://www.hotel-grandes-ecoles.com

Ths super charming hotel is tucked away in a cobblestone courtyard and feels like you are in the country not the middle Paris. The rooms themselves are simple and exceptionally clean. We were rarely in the room so found it was more than adequate for us. The beds are reasonably comfortable and the staff very friendly and accommodating. The hotel is in a superb location in the Latin Quarter and short walk to many sights. It is literally a stones throw from the metro station Cardinal Lemoine and a reasonable walk to other major rail stations meaning you can easily get around Paris.

My only complaint would be the lack of a bar fridge in the room and the request to not have any outside food in the room at all. I was travelling with my daughter and teenage son, who is hungry all the time. So not being able to fuel him up at all hours of the day was a bit if an issue. However, I would definitely go back as a couple or adult travellers only. If I was travelling with children again I would probably consider renting an apartment in the Latin Quarter.

The rooms are chintzy. The bed wasn't that comfortable but we will be back. There are a lot of poor quality and expensive hotels in Paris. This place is not one of them.I would thoroughly recommend it. Tucked away behind large imposing doors the hotel is quiet and the courtyard is really nice.

There is a cafe directly opposite if you don't want to breakfast at the hotel. Despite being a really quiet hotel you are literally a few minutes walk from lots of buzzing young bars and decent restaurants. It is very close to sites like the Pantheon and a gentle15 minutes down hill to the Seine. Notra Dame is walking distance too.

When you exit Cardinal Lemoine metro stop you walk directly up the hill and within 5 minutes you are at the hotel, which is hidden behind large green doors directly opposite the Sugar Plum Cafe.

We visit Paris regularly for weekend breaks. This will be a regular place for us. It is near the sites but outside the main tourist centres. You can get a proper feel for Paris staying here and it is an easy base from which to get around.
