“What a great find !!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2013

Everything about Le Citizen is wonderful. First of all, the staff couldn't be nicer and more helpful. They always had a smile and were eager to make our stay memorable. The days started out with a delicious selection of breads and pastries, plus you could order eggs or pancakes however you wanted them. The dining room is small and everyone staying there was friendly, so we all shared our experiences and tips with each other at breakfast time.

When it was time to set out, the staff would help you plan your day wisely and give you directions on how to use the metro to find your way. When you returned after a long day of sightseeing, they also recommended restaurants within a few blocks of the hotel for dinner and would make a reservation for you if necessary.

The room we had on the first floor had a great view of the canal and the bridge in this charming neighborhood. In the evening, groups of people met by the canal with their picnics. On Friday, Saturday, & Sunday evenings, it was wall to wall groups of friends enjoying food, wine, & company. That created such a nice atmosphere.... just what you would like to see in a city like Paris. We loved to stroll by them on our way to and from dinner.

Our room was bright and charming with a nice comfortable bed, and a nice bathroom. The size is typical of a hotel room in a European boutique hotel. There were always little snacks and juices and soda in the room when we returned as well as complimentary wine and snacks in the dining room from 6 - 7 PM.

For anyone visiting Paris who wants a great place to stay that's close enough to the attractions, yet not in in an area jammed up with people, you can't do better than this hotel.

I've stayed at a lot of nice hotels for both work and vacation. But this is one of my all time faves. It's in a great area of Paris - not quite as touristy as others, yet extremely lively. There are lots of bars, restaurants, coffee shops, etc. nearby. And great shopping is a close walk. But the best part about the hotel is the hotel itself. The staff were probably the kindest, most helpful staff that I've ever seen. They don't even wait for you to ask questions. They ask you what you need. They ask you where you'd like to go. They have a great (and free) breakfast spread every morning. They prepare it themselves right in the little kitchen/dining area. And for those of us (me!) who speak little to no French, they speak fluent English. And they don't seem the least bit miffed for having to do so.

Our room was small. (Although, there are several size upgrades. So if you're looking for something big, look into one of the larger sizes.) But we were in Paris. So it's not like we needed the space. We just wanted a charming, comfortable place to come back to after a bunch of long days of walking. And for that, it fit the bill perfectly.

Le Citizen is a great place to stay if you don't mind being somewhat away from the major sights of Paris. Of course with the Paris subway system being as good as it is, it is not a problem getting around. The hotel is very modern inside with interesting angles and decor. Our room on the 5th floor was very large and overlooked the Canal. The only problem was that it was a bit noisy later at night due to the large bar scene in the streets below. All the staff were wonderful and very helpful with restaurant suggestions. Breakfast was included, unlike most other hotels in Paris, and was excellent. Not just your typical French breakfast. They even cooked eggs, squeezed real oranges, had various meats, cheeses, breads, and even homemade yougurt. We would stay here again.

Have just spent 2 nights at Le Citizen. It was fantastic! In a great neighbourhood surrounded by bars, restaurants and lovely shops. The staff were friendly and extremely helpful - great recommendations for restaurants and made reservations for us. The hotel is on a busy street but if you are staying in a vibrant area you would expect some noise - it wasn't a problem for us. And it was great to be able to walk a short distance to so many good places to eat and drink. Breakfast was amazing too - would highly recommend the hotel.

Room Tip: We stayed in the City K room which had a view over the Canal and was very comfortable.

Tiny Hotel with only 12 rooms (2 per level). My room was very small but with 3 windows and very clean.
All staff was friendly. The breakfast was very good.
The location is not in Paris center, but is in the cosy CANAL de St.MARTIN.
I will return.

What a fabulous hotel, in a very convenient location and looking over the beautiful canal, with all its fascinating comings and goings. Perfect for a family weekend, with friendly, helpful staff who all speak good English and are happy to share their wide local knowledge. Rooms were spotless, and the layout was original, practical and thoughtful. Looking forward to visiting again in the near future...

Room Tip: All rooms look over the canal, higher floors a little quieter

Stylish and personal little hotel in lovely part of Paris ... very friendly and knowledgeable staff: Eric and John were especially helpful and recommended charming and delicious small neighborhood restaurants ... just the type Americans hope to find in Paris. The standard rooms are quite small but the bed is very comfortable and the shower strong and hot.
