After several attempts we finally got a room at the Citizen Hotel on the Canal St Martin. Its tiny - about 12 rooms so it is frequently booked up but we were lucky and they had a room for one night. The hotel feels mildly expensive but set against the price of a room is that there is a very nice complimentary breakfast, drinks between 6pm and 7pm, and snacks and soft drinks in the room and use of room iPad in the hotel.
Our room was well thought out, nice shower, loo and sink with good towels and bits and bobs, nice bed, warm, good curtains. It was small. Paris hotel rooms are often small, tiny compared with American hotel rooms but even so it was small. I think the rooms vary quite a lot in size and price - if you are a very neat person, then the smallest may suit you fine but you should ask about room sizes when booking. For one night our room was great.
The staff were lovely and helpful.
Its hard to rate places when you go to hotels infrequently but trying to save 5 points for the amazing, this was certainly between good and very good and so I'm giving it 4 points.
