“This bridge was a delightful surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2014

We encountered Le Pont de Bir-Hakeim while walking along the riverfront en route to the Eiffel Tower from the Pont de Grenelle vicinity where the Viking Spirit was docked. I didn’t know anything about this strikingly handsome bridge before I saw it, so it was a pleasant surprise. We didn’t walk out on the bridge to photograph the Eiffel Tower from the spacious observation platform on that side, but it would have been a wonderful photo op. I won’t pass up the opportunity if there is a next time.

“Interesting Double-Tiered Bridge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2014

This double-tiered steel bridge was considered the height of modern design when it was built between 1903 and 1905 to connect the 15th and 16th arrondissements. Metro Line 6 travels on top while the lower level carries vehicles, pedestrians and bicyclists. The latter seem to prefer the wide path down the center with vehicular traffic whizzing by on both sides.

A fan of "Inception," I went to take a quick look at the bridge, because of the mirror scene in that film. I lingered because I liked the bridge's architectural structure and its nicely crafted statues. For example, some large figures depict iron workers, and four massive statues represent Science, Labor, Electricity and Commerce. In addition, I enjoyed the splendid view of the Eiffel Tower.

From the center of the bridge, steps lead down to the Allee des Cygnes, an artificial island in the Seine with a short, tree-lined promenade. A 35-foot-high replica of the Statue of Liberty appears at the Western end. Many benches along the way invite visitors to sit and enjoy the relative tranquility here after the noise and activity above.

“Great views of the Eiffel Tower and the Seine River”

Right next to the metro station with the same name. Great place to take a picture of the Eiffel Tower at sunset.

“Connects the 15th and 16th arrondissements”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2014

Called the Passy viaduct until 1948, it was renamed the Pont de Bir-Hakeim to commemorate General Koenig's June 1942 victory over Rommel in the North African desert.

In 1902 a competition was organised for a two tier bridge, with a road bridge on the lower level and on the upper level, a railway viaduct. The Pont de Bir-Hakeim was the site of much artistic activity with cast iron motifs and grotesque masks.
