If you find yourself in Paris with young children, this is definitely worth a visit. We were there in the winter time so wasn't able to enjoy the gardens but there's plenty to see and do. There's a really cool old school natural history museum with the largest collection of every imaginable animal skeleton you can think of: from bats to baby apes to tarsiers to hippos to narwhals and giraffes and boa constrictors! The top floor is dedicated to dinosaur and prehistoric skeletons. Really interesting for kids AND adults. After that you can visit the zoo, which is not very big but not too small either. It's a very pleasant stroll with a nice collection of animals. After that there's The Grande Gallerie de l'Evolution, a modern natural history museum housed in a gorgeous building. The main mezzanine has an impressive exhibit of taxidermy that looks like their migrating towards Noah's Ark. Make sure you allot one whole day for this to enjoy everything.
