“Be ready to be transported back to the glory of France”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2013

We came to visit Dôme des Invalides, to see the tomb of Napoleon initially but when buying the tickets, the Musee de l'Armee is included, so we visited first Napoleon's tomb to see the very imposing tomb made of red quartz and green granite. It is a breathtaking sight to behold.
We walked to the courtyard towards the army museum, the first thing we saw where cannons with intricate designs and accordingly goes back about 200 years.
Our first stop was the Ancient Armour and Arms, we have not seen so much armours with elaborate designs including the head gears, we could have stayed there just admiring them and you will see also firearms and we even saw Japanese samurai's armour, Turkish Ottoman period, among others.
We went to the world wars upstairs and saw the the beginning of the reorganizing of the army in 1871 all the way to the first war to the second war up to the fall of Berlin Wall.
The sad part of the visit is we could not stay longer to absorb all the glory and tribulations of this army of a great nation.

“No half measures for Napolean!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2013 via mobile

Everything Napolean did was on a grand scale. This does not fail to impress with its larger then life size! A quick tour but well worth the effort.

“Huge”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2013

There's a lot to see here, so take my score with a pinch of salt as we did not have time to see the majority, and, I presume because it was a Sunday, the church was closed.

We headed straight for the tomb itself, under the enormous dome. The tomb itself is, frankly, ridiculously big, and no photo I've seen does it any justice at all. You have to see it with your own eyes to register the scale properly. It is highly polished and actually looked to me like something made out of over-sized Lego, although I don't mean to criticise unduly!

The rest of the building housing the tomb is interesting to look around for ten-twenty minutes, including Napoleon II's tomb and some wall paintings.

Elsewhere in Hotel des Invalides, we walked through the military museum very quickly, but this is not something we're interested in and thus our comments are not really relevant.

The tomb is probably something you need to see to believe, but the entrance fee will be better value if you have more interest in some of the other things to see there, and the church is open.

“Must see if you are a military enthusiast.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2013

A well demarcated museum which adjoins another attraction, the Dôme des Invalides, which contains Napoleon's tomb.
A combined visit will suffice both.
I did not take any voice guide and unfortunately many of the signage is in French.
Still, a military enthusiast will be able to recognize many of the iconic weapons displayed, there up to WW2.
One can just imbibe the and live through the terrible wars, both in their destruction and victory.
Photography is allowed without flash,
The courtyard could have contained some more static displays, but, the displays inside suffice.
May not appeal to families or young Children on an extended basis, but those interested may can spend hours there.
There is a souvenier shop, a bit expensive, but with quality stuff.
