Just back from 4 days at Caron de Beaumarchais conveniently located on a wonderful street in the Marais but the next time I think about staying there I will be careful to specify that I need a room large enough to accomodate two suitcases . Since I did not know in advance that some of their rooms are only large enough for a bed and a handbag we were forced to move three times in a 4 day stay.

Staying in this property is not for those who seek luxury at each turn.

The good things are the location and convenience - you can literally walk Paris from the front door.

The bad are that the rooms are small (worth asking for a balcony room when booking) and it's a couple of hundred years old ( - is that good or bad?).

We quite happily lived in this hotel (in the fifth floor balcony room) for a week and thought it was a great option.

Aside from the location, I hated this place. The Marais is an amazing neighborhood, but not worth a stay in this dirty little hotel. The carpets were worn and torn, and i was afraid to take my shoes off. Moreover, the maid's hair was on my sheets, and i seriously doubted the integrity and cleanliness of the mattresses and sheets. I was just here for one night, but I didn't get any sleep at all - I was too afraid the bed bugs would bite. This hotel is cheap, but you'd be better off moving to a less amazing location in order to preserve your sanity. I would recommend the Hotel Elysees Regencia in the 16e on Avenue Marceau. The rooms are slightly more expensive, but you get a whole lot more for the money.

We just got back from a fabulous first time trip to Paris. We stayed at the Caron De Beaumarchais for 5 nights from July 7-12th. We booked at this hotel after reading so many positive reviews and they were all correct!

Yes, the rooms are very tiny but that is common in Europe. Although small, they were immaculate and well appointed. We were able to stay in a 6th floor balcony room which due to the balcony made the room seem much larger! I highly recommend trying to book a room with a balcony. My husband and I found that was one of the high points of our stay, being able to enjoy breakfast on the balcony in the mornings. The breakfast, although 12 Euros, was huge consisting of pain de chocolat, croissant, mini-baguette, yogurt, kiwi, cheese, boiled egg, assorted homemade spreads, orange juice & coffee. On the few mornings we ordered breakfast at the hotel we only ordered 1 and shared it.

The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. I loved the Marais district with its close proximity to everything and all the adorable patisseries & restaurants close by.

Overall we loved our stay and will definitely consider staying here again when we return to Paris (which we definitely will!)
