We spent three wonderful nights here and enjoyed every minute of it right from the warm welcome from the doormen and the efficient and friendly service at check-in right through to check-out.
We stayed in a superior guestroom, which overlooked a quiet - albeit relatively featureless - courtyard. The room itself was excellent - nicely fitted bathroom, comfortable beds, stylish room and plenty of storage space.
Whilst at the hotel, we visited the Alain Ducasse restaurant, the bar (great cocktails), La Terrasse Montaigne (for afternoon tea and excellent cakes from the trolley) and the stunning Dior spa and health centre. All were truly great.
The best part about the hotel was undoubtedly the service. Bar staff make the effort to remember your name (and the conversation from the previous night plus your preferred table!), the impressive attention to detail in the restaurant (e.g. providing a menu with prices to me (the organiser of the booking) and one without for my companion), the cleaning lady we followed down the corridor one day wiping her finger along the wall panels looking for dust as she was making her way to her next job (she failed to find any, in case you're wondering), the refreshing - and universal - attitude of the Plaza Athenee staff to not expect tips as is often the case in hotels, the wonderful surprise on my birthday... I could go on.
My only gripe - and it is a very small one all things considered - is that lack of complimentary wifi for guests. Given the strong customer focus that the hotel clearly has, throwing in free wifi would be a nice touch rather than charging extra (for info, at the time of writing, it was 15 EUR for an hour, 24 EUR for day, 48 EUR for 2 days and so on in increments). That's not a reason in itself to find somewhere else to stay though!
In summary, highly recommended for anyone looking for a special place to stay in Paris. We will be back!
