Owner description: This beautiful museum, once a railroad station, now houses a staggering collection of Impressionist art, as well as other items created between 1848 and 1914. In 2011, the museum is running a renovation of the top floor (impressionist gallery). Only ground and medium floor are accessible. The top floor will re-open on the 20th of October. Meanwhile, some impressionist masterpieces are not visible.

“Appoint one day here!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2014 via mobile

Initially I only intended to stay half a day but I ended up staying there from 10-3pm and still can't finish viewing. Do visit 5th floor first for the huge collection of the Impressiontists' works. Vincent Van Gogh has a small gallery at 2nd floor. Audio guide is recommended at €5.

Do buy and print the ticket online to beat the queue. Enter via entrance C. It was raining when I went, and the crowd who didn't purchase their ticket in advance was queuing outside in the rain..

This newly renovated museum is well planned, well laid out, adequately lighted and modern for you to fully enjoy masterpieces. However I can't compliment on some of it's facilities like restrooms, clear signs and directions. There were not enough seats at the cafes, resulting in long queues at every food outlets. I visited on a weekday.

Do appoint one whole day at the museum so that you will not feel rushed and enjoy the Museum at your own pace.

“be selective”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2014

unless you really enjoy art you can be quite selective about what you see here but worth the visit. The building by itself is something.

“a great museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2014

walked along the seine from boulevard st. michel - so first, great location!
second, very short lines, not even half an hour. was there in july 2014 at 11:00 AM.
third, the building itself is gorgeous inside and very well laid out. galleries lining both sides of the building. looks almost industrial - lots of steel and beams and pipes. the middle space is also well used. would have liked elevator access to the top and then walk down, but...
and not too crowded inside either. good exhbitions!

“So many Masterpieces!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2014

If you like Impressionist and post-Impressionist art this is NOT to be missed! Manet, Monet, Renoir, Degas, Courbet, Van Gogh, and so many others are represented by the best of their work and it is all presented in a fantastic setting - the old trainstation. One thing, if you are not interested in the decretive arts - furniture and accessories for example, don't bother with the third and fourth floors - they have wonderful examples of the Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau furnishings - bur the real prizes are on the fifth, second and first floors for the incredible paintings!

“Well worth the visit, and much less busy than Louvre”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2014

We accidentally found ourselves at the Musse D'Orsay on the first Sunday of the month, and it turned out to be free which is a really good deal. The museum has a great Van Gogh section which was the busiest area of the museum. The museum building itself, being and old train station is itself worth seeing.
