My husband and I just finished eating one of the best meals we have ever had at Charbon Rouge. So amazing infact, that I felt immediately inclined to write a review (my first ever) on Trip Advisor. First of all, my husband and I are steak lovers. Our most special occasions are celebrated at Ruth's Chris, Morton's, Shula's, The Palm, Flemings, etc... Therefore, I can honestly attest to the quality of Charbon Rouge steak - it is fantastic, cooked perfectly with incredible flavor. Plain and simple, yet savory, high quality quality beef - no extravagant sauces needed (although the bernaise provided as a side was divine!)
We dined at Le Jules Verne in the Eiffel Tower just last night, and although incredible (and pricey) the food was a little out of our comfort zone - a bit exotic for us. Today we wanted something equally delicious, but less expensive and more familiar. Charbon Rouge fit the bill perfectly, although familiar food was on the menu (an English version was provided as well) there was still an excellent Parisian flair that made it stand apart from the steak houses we frequent in the U.S.
I ordered the Argentine Filet - medium, simple salad, and fries (which melt in your mouth). My husband ordered the U.S. bone-in tenderloin. Although both were delicious, we both agreed that my filet was the best (and about 1/2 the price of his!!). It was cooked to perfection with just a bit of crunch on the outside for added texture and flavor.
The staff was exceptional - extremely welcoming and friendly to American patrons. They made excellent recommendations (even steering me away from a more pricey entree in favor of a better, yet less expensive option). They immediately seated us with an excellent view, even though we were 30 minutes early for our reservations. And without being intrusive or overbearing (as some waiters/ waitresses) can be, they were extremely attentive - my wine glass never went empty and the bread was continually refilled. Additionally, amazing home made butter and some sort of olive oil dipping sauce were provided. My husband (who always prefers butter) practically dumped the entire serving of olive oil onto his bread!
I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who who wants a wonderful steak in Paris. Although an avid trip advisor reader myself, I have never felt compelled to write a recommendation as highly as I do to Charbon Rouge. Please take my advice and visit this restaurant. Great location off of the Champs Elyse's and I promise you will not be disappointed! This is the kind of restaurant that will help me convince my meat and potatoes, football loving, husband to take me back to Paris!! Bon Apetite :)
P.S. The crab cakes and cheesecake were also delicious as well!
