When I walked in to Villa Madame, an absolutely delightful quaint boutique hotel just off the Quartier Latin in a beautiful residential street, I was adamant I was going to leave the place and immediately come here to give it a 5/5 review. But a couple of quite annoying issues happened that made me change my mind, though I still think on any other day it would have been very different!
On the first night at Friday evening, just after going out and coming back famished to the hotel, I thought I'd order some room service. I made sure I read the catalog in the room which clearly said that room service would be available till 1am with a maximum of 45 minute wait for the food. A bit long, I called to inquire, the receptionist duly informed me it is because they don't have a kitchen, and it is a delivery company that handles this. But when I got back at 12.30am and tried to order food, I was disappointed to find out that this was not possible as the last order time was 12! Again I inquired and was told that is it because it actually takes them "an hour" to deliver and so the last order time is 12. Not a mention on the catalog.
You do get the feel the this lovely place believes in doing things quietly, calmly and the hotel goes to sleep early! Not that this is a bad thing, but the next night I tried to purchase a cigar from the bar to smoke in the garden with a few friends (after an earlier recommendation from the reception) but again I was told the garden closes at 10pm.
But don't let these two incidents deter you if you plan to book, this is by far the best place I've been to in Paris with an incredible staff and a brilliant design that pays so much attention to detail. Bonsai plants near the door, books everywhere, ipads at your disposal, lovely scents everywhere, the place is the epitome of feng-shui and positive energy.
In the lobby there is a nice library of books in various languages and lovely jazz playing the background. Perfect for relaxation, I ordered a VSOP congac and enjoyed some incredible literature by the man who forever branded this city, Papa Hemingway, it just seemed right!
The location of the hotel couldn't have been any better, right in the heart of the 6eme, it is a stone throw away from the lush Jardins Du Luxembourg. That morning jog was made so much more enjoyable! It's also a walking distance from myriad of attractions, including the lovely Eglise Saint Sulpice and the world of high end shopping on Rue Saint Sulpice or Rue de Rennes. It's very close to the legendary Bd. Saint Germain-des-Pres, perfect for an evening stroll and enjoying a sip of delightful Bordeaux on the countless cafe trottoirs along the boulevard all the way into the Quartier Latin or St Michel.
Paris is an enchanting city, a second home, and with Villa Madame I believe I have found myself a home within a home! I will be returning in October, and forgetting the room service issue, I cannot wait!
