We were looking for a decent place to stay in our 3 days / 2 nights at Paris. Based on the reviews on Trip Advisor, we decided to go on ahead with Liberty Hotel - the best value for our budget. It was as expected. We stayed at room number 7 on the first floor. It has an attached shower, queen size bed, a small cupboard and a small desk. Size measures approximately 11 ft x 11 ft. The windows open to face the roof of the ground floor. The windows wasn't grilled, anyone could have climbed in to the room. Perhaps having a police station next to the hotel is a deterrent. On the other hand, you can hear constant sirens ringing through the night. (You can also hear voices - not sure if they are from the police station or from the adjacent rooms.) The room was clean and the bed was made every morning. The shower was a tad too cramped. Clean nevertheless.

The staff recommended a French restaurant nearby - 3 minutes walk away. Food was good - by our standards. ;)

Really central, 2 or 3 metro stations within easy walking distance, as well as Gare de l'Est. It’s really cheap for Paris, no denying it’s a bargain. The facade and communal areas are clean & well kept and give a good impression as you arrive, unfortunately the rooms don't match. The staff are friendly and helpful, there’s free wifi and vending machines selling a variety of drinks, snacks and useful items. You can also have breakfast in the lobby if you wish, although we didn’t sample this. There’s no lift and the stairs are small, narrow and spiral, lovely to look at, not so much fun to climb with luggage!! The corridors are narrow, dark and creepy, the rooms are pretty much the same.

We had a tiny double room with a shower but no toilet (what a strange set up, you had to go down the creepy corridor to get to the communal toilet, which didn’t have a sink, then go back to your room to wash your hands) on the 3rd floor. The towels provided were threadbare, a lovely shade of chewing gum grey and frayed, I’d advise taking your own. The sheets looked and smelled clean but the blanket and bedspread were old, worn and stained. The curtains were also old and stained. The carpet had seen better days, as had the furniture. The room just felt drab, old and dirty, if ever a place needed refurbished this is it!

I’ve stayed in many budget hotels and hostals in Europe, so basic, old fashioned and small I can deal with, but this was my worst experience so far. My partner says you get what you pay for in Paris and budget really means budget there, but I really just did not feel clean or comfortable throughout our stay.

Paris is expensive, so this place is a manageable price for a two-person room with a full bathroom in the room. The rooms here "do the trick", but they aren't fancy or anything special. The staff are great - very attentive and polite. The location is decent - very close to two metro stations, as well as Gare l'Est and Gare du Nord. However, we arrived at night at the Chateau d'Eau metro station and it seemed sketchy and unsafe, so I would recommend arriving during the day, or taking the Jacques Bonsergent metro stop to get to the Hotel. Other than that, the breakfast they provide is good value and tasty enough.

Had I been doing a standard tourist trip to Paris, I probably would have never considered staying in the 10th. But, as we were visiting a friend who lived nearby, we picked Hotel Liberty and were pleasantly surprised. As this arrondissement doesn't really have any major landmarks in it, prices were lower and it actually felt like we were staying in a living and breathing city rather than a tourist attraction. The nearby metro stations made it easy to get to the city centre, and for those who don't mind a walk, Montmartre is not too far.

Hotel Liberty itself was simple, clean, and cheap. Our room was pretty bare but still functional, with an attached shower but shared toilet down the hallway. The free wi-fi was an excellent bonus. We were especially pleased with the service - the 24 hr front desk staff were always friendly and helpful - they even let us leave our bigger bags with them when we took a one-night trip out of the city. As a traveler on a tight budget, I would definitely stay at Hotel Liberty again.

As a budget hotel in Paris, this is clearly a hidden gem. We spent five nights at the Hôtel Liberty in Paris in april 2009, and were very satisfied. All of the staff members were polite, friendly, and they all spoke french and english. Breakfast (which consists of baguettes, croissants, marmelade, butter, coffee/tea/hot chocolate and orange juice) is served between 07.30-10.30 am, but one morning when we had to leave before 07.30, they got us coffee and orange juice (the fresh baguettes and croissants hadn't arrived yet), and they let us eat our own food in the breakfast room. The rooms are small but clean, and it was really quiet during the night. It is located close to two metro stops (Jacques Bonsergent and Château d'Eau), and line no. 4 from Château d'Eau gets you to Cité (where you find Notre Dame) in about five minutes. Close to the hotel we also found a nice restaurant, called La P'tite Louise, and the Boulevard de Magenta is filled with bistro's and café's as well. Next time we come to Paris, this is were we're staying!
