“Economy hotel with good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2011

If you have big plans or dreams about being in Paris then this hotel is not for you. Its a pure economy hotel, cheaper for pocket with bare minimum requirements fulfilled. Rooms are alright if you are going to use them only for sleeping overnight and keeping your bags while you roam around in Paris. We stayed in this hotel for 3 days, and it was very good location. It has different metro stations nearby, giving you more flexibility if you are travelling by a metro. A word of caution though, walk towards Gare de L'Est is a bit dodgy. Every time we walked on this road, it was crowded with many funny looking people, nobody troubled us though.
If you are travelling by Eurostar then the hotel is in easy reach from Nord.
Room was very basic, with a double bed, shower and toilet facility. Staff was very friendly and helpful, most importantly English speaking.
The room charges included breakfast, and it was good too.
Overall, its value for money, a cheap alternative to sleep overnight, and use that extra bit of money on other good things in Paris like night life.

The location of the hotel itself is fantastic. It’s easy to walk into Paris centre (takes about 30 mins strolling) and also there is the main station of Gard le ‘est and Gard du Nord so you can get to it without too many issues from CDG when your flight comes in. The hotel itself was easy to find once we were off the bus and great location for first time visitors. It’s not right in the centre but it is central enough for hotspots.

Our room was up four flights of stairs which was fine for us however some people may struggle with it. It was a bit of a nightmare carrying the cases up and back down but as long as you’re not in a hurry, it’s not a real issue. Also, some levels of fitness are required but then you tend to walk everywhere in Paris anyway.
The rooms are small but convenient. We had a room with a window facing onto Rue De Nancy. One thing I will say, if you have trouble sleeping take ear plugs because if you go in summer like we did, you’ll need the windows open and this city never sleeps. There is traffic, scooters and motorbikes revving up and down the street throughout the night and you will hear them, so be warned!

The bathroom was very small however again, it did a job. The shower was tiny but it worked and water was always hot. There was also towels provided which I was surprised at as you often don’t see that in budget city centre locations.

We never breakfasted at the hotel as it would cost an additional 5 Euro per person for continental and it didn’t look too appealing and to be honest it was cheaper and nicer to walk down to the local supermarket, grab a French stick, some emmental and some ham and have a picnic in the park or go out and get croissants from the patisserie.

If you are not into walking, there are some excellent transport links with the Metro just up the road as well as the train station at the top of the road.

This area is also excellent for restaurants, check out Café Panique and Le Bistrot Des Faubourgs. Both reasonably priced (for Paris!) and both two of the loveliest meals we ever had and all within walking distance. They are both on TripAdvisor so check them out before you go.

Generally, this hotel did what we needed it to do. It was a base to come back to after a long day of sightseeing and as long as you treat it this way, it will be fine. If you want to go for super comfort, a little touch of luxury, this isn’t for you. For the price you pay in probably the most expensive place I’ve ever holidayed, it’s really not that bad!

I got recommended this hotel. Not sure why!!!

Room stunk of cigarette smoke, there was chewing gums in the curtains.
We asked to get out room changed as my aunt was sick from the smell. She threw up!

The area is a bit of a scare as well

Breakfast was OK- But not to sure about the coffee- they microwave it for you!
Breakfast is a croissant and bread

Cute rooms, working baths and showers, the only downside was having to walk up 4 flights up the stairs to our room after a 10 hour venture from London. Other than that, was great and friendly.

When I asked hotel to send an invitation with the name of my wife indicated (we had to get the Shengen visas), the Hotel sent us an ordinary file in *.doc - format (instead of scanned copy with the stamp of the hotel) and charged me 5 euros for this letter and also took a payment for the first night.

I must add that I had to sent them 7(!) e-mails before they had sent me the proper invitation without mistakes.

When I staid in the hotel they forgot that they had already charged me for the first night, and when I told them about it they said that they didn't do it. Then they demanded from me the letter from my bank as a proof that they really took the payment for the first night.
It took more then 15 minutes(!) of conversation before they remembered that they really had already charged me that payment.

Also I can add that the shower was out-of-order (I had to hold the hose in my hand while I took the shower). And the walls in the hotel are too thin, I could hear every noise in the corridor and in the adjacent rooms.

1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2010

We spent a week in this hotel last summer and decided to book here again for some nights in December.
We chose the same type of room (double bed room with private ensuite) as we did last summer and paid the same price, but we got a very shabby room (room number 8, on the 1st floor) now. Its view was a wall (!!!) and its bathroom was in terrible condition, it was not clean enough and there were black mould on the tiles and it was smelly.
We wanted to change the room, but it was not possible.
We like the location of the hotel it is near some metro stations, but we will definitely not choose it again and we not recommend it for anyone.
It was a very bad experience and we hated that room.
Sorry for this negative feedback, but it was real disappointment.

The hotel is very basic but clean, rooms are very small but ok and are cleaned everyday. The breakfast offered for EUR 5,50 is very decent - fresh bagettes, croissants, caffee/tea/cocoa, jam, butter, orange juice.
Location is really convenient - two metro stops are within 2 min walk, both major ralilway stations are also nearby. About 20 min walk to Notre Dame. The hotel seems to be located in the centre of the African neighbourhood but I never had a problem walking to the hotel even late at night. Definitely recommended.
