“Thank goodness for free phone calls!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2013

We stayed at Au Sourire de Montmartre in the end of May 2013. It is very easy to find this B & B and very close to the metro station. It is in a nice area with several restaurants nearby. You can walk up the hill for more places to eat as well. The night we walked up the hill we heard a musician playing typical French music on his violin and it felt just like being in a French movie. Sacre Coeur is at the top of the hill and it is lit up beautifully at night.

The neighborhood felt safe at all times and we used the bus system to visit the Eiffel Tower before breakfast one morning. Easy to navigate.

The rooms are lovely, if small. Our room did have a computer with free internet access which came in very useful at the end of our stay.

The breakfast was quite varied with croissants, jams, fruits and eggs. We even brought in our own breakfast cereal (French cereal that we wanted to try) and they gave us bowls of milk to pour our cereal into. Just a quick note. I do wish the breakfast started a little earlier as we wanted to eat early and get out to go sightseeing in Paris.

The B & B itself is very pretty with unique decorations throughout. The top level is gorgeous with the skylight and the high ceilings. Several travel books from the Middle East are available to read if you have an interest. The owner is very kind and friendly.

We do have a couple of negative issues. During our stay, France was experiencing a very cold May with heavy rain and 37 degree Fahrenheit weather. While it was never cold in the B & B, the shower water was freezing! For me, I was the first one up in the B & B (I think) and I had hot water. My husband was second (and he's very fast in the shower) and his water was warm. But when my son took his shower, only cold water was left. Given that one must open the window by the shower or it would be too stuffy, he was freezing the first morning. The second day, he showered at night thinking everyone else would have showered by then and the hot water would have replenished. But, again, the same thing. Cold water only. The last morning, he got up at 5:00 a.m. to shower and it happened a third time. It was definitely distressing since it was so cold in Paris at the time.

Also, on the last morning of our stay, only one person was in the room to pack up as the other two in our family were at the police station to file a police report. My husband was putting together our things as quickly as possible, but the maid came in half an hour early and rushed him out of the room. He had to grab everything and hurry out then and there. I do not know why this occurred but it was a little unsettling as two of us were frantically trying to finish up the police report (in French!) and get to the train station in time for our departure train.

However, I would recommend this B & B for one main reason. Madame offers free phone calls from her house to the U.S. on the house phone. Our wallet was stolen on the Paris Metro and of course, all of our credit cards were inside the wallet. We immediately went back to the B & B and started using the house phone to contact the banks in the U.S. to advise them of the theft. It helped tremendously, also, to have free internet. We could access our various accounts and other companies to notify them of the situation. Had we not been able to place the phone calls, the crooks would have been able to use our credit cards to charge anything they wanted until the following morning. We are tremendously grateful for the use of the phones for this reason.

Hint: do NOT carry any wallets in back pockets on the metro, button or no button on your pockets! My son never felt a thing and then suddenly the wallet was gone by the next stop. These people are pros and you will never feel anything!

Enjoy your stay in Paris!

We've just arrived home from 4 days in Paris. Stayed at Au sourire de Montmartre which is just the most perfect little french bed and breakfast. Ilhame is a wonderfully sweet hostess and her home is gorgeous. She serves an excellent breakfast, perfect to get you going for the day.

Recommend Au Sourire de Montmartre highly!!

Excellent accommodations, location and service. They have a lovely welcome plaque that states it is " Your home in Paris", and it truly is. It is like coming home to Mom. Ilhame welcomes you warmly and spoils you, just like mom would do. The breakfast is delicious and plentiful, rooms beautiful and comfortable and so quiet! The only thing we recommend, be sure to take your codes with you because the building is inside another building, and you need the code to open the front and interior doors.

Room Tip: All are good, and you have to climb all the way to the 8th floor for breakfast, so suggesting a lowe...

We booked into this bed & breakfast as something very different to what we normally do. We usually stay in Invalides or in very close proximity to the Eiffel Tower. We caught the train from Charles de Gaulle to Jules Joffrin which is two blocks away from the B&B. It is situated in a very good location to experience the 'artiness' of Montmartre. It is near to the Sacre Coeur, there are ATMs, the post office and an Orange shop close by if you want to get a french SIM card or just top up an existing one. The owners are the friendliest people that we have encountered in Paris. They are accommodating and overly generous in what they offer. We had access to the lounge/dining area whenever we wanted and when we returned at night with take aways, they went out of their way to reset tables etc for us. The breakfasts are the best we have eaten away from home. Fresh fruit salad, yoghurt, madeleines, fresh pastries, fresh baguettes with home made preserves, cheese, meats nutella... hot chocolate, coffee, tea - really they give you whatever your heart desires.EVERY DAY. We arrived early and they kept our luggage for the morning till we returned to officially book in. The rooms vary in size and are not the largest but certainly not small by Paris standards. There are lots of restaurants around that you can choose from and it is cheaper than around the Eiffel Tower. The rooms were very clean, the style is chic and everyone that assisted us at the B&B was fantastic! There is a Mac in every room which is connected to the internet. While all the tourist attractions seem to be on the other side of town, this is a rare opportunity to eat with the locals, receive true french hospitality, which is fabulous, and feel like you are actually one of the locals. The metro is so close and there is a bus stop virtually outside front door! Don't hesitate to book - this is absolutely worth staying at. The best place that we have stayed at in Paris.

My husband, son and I stayed for 5 days and nights. We loved it there! The rooms were spotless and extremely comfortable, with cozy beds and pillows! The breakfast was always delicious! Ilhame provided us with maps and directions to anywhere we could possibly want to go and the metro was only 2 blocks away. We loved staying there and would definitely go back again. I would recommend this delightful B&B. Ilhame and her family made us feel so welcome and comfortable and right at home. A highlight of our 2 weeks in Europe.

We were a group of 11 that stayed for one week. Ilhame and her family are the best! The breakfast every morning was outstanding as well as their accommodations with our schedule. It was my husband's birthday and Ilhame was kind enough to schedule a chef to cook all of us dinner. We invited ILhame and her husband for appetizers and had a wonderful time. We felt like family, home in Paris. We would stay again with no hesitation and highly recommend to anyone considering that they should do the same. Five stars in all areas.

We stayed here during the Fete Nationale celebrations for 14th July. We wanted somewhere out of the inner city centre, but on a metro route and in a great area. This hotel totally lived up to our expectations. It's beautifully decorated and appointed - it doesn't look like a hotel from the street, just a red door, but when you get inside and through the courtyard it's absolutely gorgeous. The decor is Moroccan and French mixed together to fantastic effect. Ilhame was away whilst we were there but her wonderful father took care of us. Our party consisted of one couple (us) who had flown and got the train from the airport, together with 4 friends who had come on 2 motorbikes - their needs were totally catered for - they parked them safely right outside, although there is payable private parking 2 streets away. When we arrived late morning we dropped off our bags, and Ilhame's father made us a wonderful breakfast. When our friends arrived later that day he gave us all a glass of wine and some snacks. So kind. The breakfasts were fab, nothing was too much trouble, he explained where things were in town, which metro to take, how long things take to walk to etc. You couldn't ask for anything more from a B&B. I would recommend this to anyone wanting something just that little bit different from the norm. A real treat.

Room Tip: Look on the website for the photos and description of each room, although our party had 3 rooms and...
