“Fab stay at Le Fabe”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013

My wife and I stayed for two nights at Le Fabe. Wonderful stay. Room was spotless and clean, well equiped and the shower and bathroom 100%. The youngsters at reception were extremely friendly, charming and helpful. Adrian and Alex and also the other young gentleman whose name we do not remember thankyou very much for this. The hotel is located about 10 minutes walk from the Montparnasse station from where you can get onto the Metro and go anywhere in Paris.

This is the nicest hotel we have stayed in in Paris. We liked that it was in a residential neighbourhood so it was quiet but still only a 5 minute walk from a Metro or 10 minutes to a livelier section of Montparnasse. We could go anywhere in Paris with only one station change.

I actually cant think of a bad thing to say about this place! The breakfast was good value for €10 for an all you can eat continental-style breakfast. Compare that to other hotels or even little cafes nearby.

The staff were so friendly and helpful with eating-out recommendations, map-drawing - just generally happy to help.

The rooms were a good size for Paris, clean and with good air-con.

We will be back!

Le Fabe is a small boutique hotel in Montparnasse, on the southwestern edge of the centre. Rooms are small and tastefully furnished, each with a different theme.

There are not many sights in walking distance, except the famous cemetery, the catacombs and the small Fondation Cartier-Bresson. However, that means the area is also less touristy and expensive than more central ones. The nearby shopping street is really quite charming. There are many small Chinese and Japanese restaurants nearby where it is easy to pop in for a quick dinner, even as a solo traveller.

From the nearby metro station it takes 15-30 minutes to the sights by underground. However, the change at Montparnasse station is quite a lengthy walk. Of course, generally, the Paris Metro is a nightmare for the elderly and people travelling with luggage. The hotel itself has an elevator, though.

Breakfast is acceptable and there is a small sauna in the basement which can be reserved for private use. There is free Wifi in the rooms. To its credit, the hotel’s hipness has not led to snobbishness. Staff were uniformly friendly and spoke good English.

Set against the general price standards in Paris, Le Fabe is not cheap but not exceptionally expensive either. It is well worth staying there, if only to be in a charming area of Paris that is less touristy.

Le Fabe Hotel was a real discovery! Just a few stops on the Metro from the centre of Paris, Le Fabe hotel is within a short walk of the Montparnasse Tower and was just far enough away to be off the beaten track.

Alex was extremely knowledgeable (as were all of the small number of staff) and they were happy to make recommendations for local restaurants, suggest routes to attractions and generally offer help in any way.

The staff are extremely helpful and the fact that there is only a small number of them just adds to the personal touch.

My wife and I had breakfast every day (10 Euros extra, which was a real bargain). Good selection of cereal, bread rolls, croissants, meats, cheeses, juice and coffee.

The hotel is well designed, has a very efficient lift and the rooms are small enough to be cosy but big enough to meet all functional needs. Even the bed was comfortable (something that many large hotels could learn from).

Did we enjoy staying there? Yes. Would we use it again? Yes. Would we recommend it to friends/family/strangers? Yes - without hesitation.

Just one recommendation. We travelled in to Nord du Gare and travelled to the hotel (with cases) on the Metro. The change at Montparnasse was a long walk with lots of stairs. O the return journey we pre-booked a taxi at a cost of around 26 Euros - money well spent to make the journey with luggage easier!!

Good location in "real Paris" - a little away from the most commonly beaten tourist tracks. This was the first time I've stayed outside of the Louvre and the St Michel areas and now feel that I prefer to stay in Montparnasse.

Staff are extremely helpful and the friendliest that I have encountered in all of my many visits to Paris, all speak English well. 24 hour presence at the hotel reception desk too which is reassuring and a good sign of their commitment to an excellent quality service, which is what was delivered.

Hotel is beautifully designed and looks stylish and classy in all aspects. Very clean too. Room was a little on the small side - however if you spend too much time in your room, then you're not doing Paris justice! Would have liked it to have its own ironing and coffee making facilities in each room, but they are two small details, overall...plus coffee is available in the dining area at a reasonable €1.50

Bed was excellent quality and the room had very good soundproofing.

Supermarket and chemist opposite and also nearby a very good beer shop "Chop'in." Also a very good boulangerie & chocolatier near to the Pernety Metro station. We ate at 2 of the nearby restaurants, the "Au Metro" and the "Crêperie L'Ile Au Blé Noir" (you can Google them both). We would rate both of them a 4/5 - it is a great bonus to have some genuinely good dining options, only walking distance away.

Note that the RER and Metro route from CDG airport has 2 changes and a lot of steps within the metro. We coped because I'm fairly big and fit so could manage to carry a 20Kg case in each hand without too much difficulty. However, if you envisage having difficulty with your mobility and/or lugging heavy cases up and down the underground steps, then you should consider pre-booking a taxi from the airport. Get a couple of independent quotes and see which offers best value.

In summary, perhaps the biggest factors:

Did we enjoy staying there? Yes
Would we use it again? Yes
Would we recommend it to friends/family/strangers? Yes (however do note the mobility / fitness considerations you need to have, relating to making the journey if you envisage struggling with heavy luggage on the train network).

So that's a yes then. Enjoy.

This hotel is a hidden treasure in Paris. It is very small and cosy, the location is easily reachably by metro. We had a very good stay, the staff was very attentive and the small breakfast was perfect to get your day started. Every room is different, we had a quick look in another room and it was different from ours, but yet also very warm and welcoming. If I'm going back to Paris, it will be in this nice boutique hotel!

What can I say- the staff made this hotel what it was. The concierge were so helpful and more than willing to give advice on how to use the metro, where to dine, when to visit tourist attractions, etc. They are all fluent in English (and a few other languages I believe) which was so nice for us, as we aren't very good with French. The rooms were gorgeous and always spotless when we arrived home after a long day of sightseeing. Location was good, about a 5 minute walk from Pernety metro station which obviously provides quick access to anywhere you want to go. I loved the area that it was in, it felt like authentic Paris away from all the tourists. Also- if you stay here, try to dine at Bistrotters (make reservations) and La Cantine du Troquette. Both are reasonably price and amazing French food with friendly service and both are a 30 second walk from Le Fabe! I would definitely recommend this hotel.
