“Serenity in Reims”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2013

I was in Reims to check my notes for a forthcoming book on the Gothic Cathedrals of France, so I required proximity to the cathedral and frequent access to my car. Both were available in this hotel, in fact, my car was parked alongside the front entrance to the hotel.
Access from the autoroute A4 is very easy: turn off at the Reims Cathedrale exit and having crossed the canal, a left turn leads one directly to the front entrance. It is equally straighforward to rejoin the autoroute: two minutes after departing I was driving along the A4 again.
I dined in the hotel on both nights of my stay and the dining room is light and overlooks the adjacent canal. The food was excellent and well presented, the price reasonable, and the staff most attentive and charming. Dining was a pleasant experience; however, I was surprised to see that with fish dishes on the menu, only one white wine appeared on the wine list.
I shall certainly be returning to the Mercure Reims Cathedrale.

See the Champagne with 4 couples: you just need your hotel for sleeping and breakfast, no ? Our surprise was huge to have excellent dinners, more than just ffriendly service and nice, clean and new rooms in the Mercure Cathedrale. The JetAir offer was more than worth the money and we will not hesitate a moment to go back a next time.

Spent a quick overnight on the weekend in Reims to visit a few Champagne Houses in the Area. The weather was nice and overall the weekend was pleasant. We have stayed a various Accor Hotels (Novotel, Novotel Suites, Mecure, Ibis, Ibis Style) generally they are value for money. You know what you are going to get and the quality to price point is typically good.

The location of this Mecure is good but if you are a first time guest the customer service upon check-in provided little to no information, you could have been on the outskirts of Reims given the information not provided. The biggest draw back to this Mecure is that the front reception could be retrained on friendliness, guess information, and understanding who is the customer. The front staff weren't rude, but don't expect any warm reception. On the otherhand the staff in the bar and breakfast areas seemed to be happy to be there and made us feel that we were not an inconvenience to them.

There are more than enought choices in Reims for a nights rest and we booked this hotel due to its central location and because of the Le Club Accor loyalty system. Bottom line, we won't be returning and based on other reviews there probably needs to be some seriousness given to to "first impression" that the front desk reception is showing. Unfortunately the first impression provided was the lasting impression. We don't expect royal treatment, but at the same time don't expect to be quickly and impersonally dealt with.

Room Tip: Higher Floor with a view of the Canal in front of the hotel and book a room with breakfast included.

Our rooms had recently been refurbished and were clean and spacious. Reception staff knowledgable & helpful about the area. Considering the locality, I thought the meals were good value for money. The evening meals were 2 courses for 21,60 euros or 3 courses for 23,00 euros. The presentation & quality were excellent. Breakfast was 17,00 euros but well worth it - we don't like wandering around looking for meals elsewhere at that time of the day. Free WiFi 24/7. Spacious bathroom with overhead shower plus hand held showerhead. Room safe & huge fridge. Bar staff were extremely obliging offering wine buckets & ice PLUS creme de cassis / framboise without charge!!

Room Tip: Rooms with a view of the cathedral are down a side street so less noisy.

The hotel is in an excellent location, the staff were friendly and helpful...it was such a shame that the bed was uncomfortable. The mattress didn't provide adequate support, the pillows didn't help either, and the bed was too narrow and a little short. Such a shame.

Opposite the canal and stadium, where ZZ Top have a concert this summer. 10 minutes from the central boulevard and Cathedral. Room clean and Japanese in style, shower wonderful. Breakfast was so expensive we walked around the corner and found a typical French Boulangerie and had the same breakfast for less than half the price which was brilliant. I recommend a tour of Charles de Cazenove (15 minutes walk) €10 for three couples de champagne, whereas in the local bars they charge around €7-8 for one coupe. The car park was a complete rip off as its free during the day but they charge € 14 for overnight (lets face it nobody wants a trip back to the hotel during the evening to move the car).....

Room Tip: All rooms are nice and quiet

Just returned from an excellent stay at the hotel. The breakfast was delicious and the hotel ideally situated for visiting Reims. The room was well presented, very clean and a most comfortable bed. A special thanks to Aurelia on reception for all her help. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the champagne house.
