“Incompetent service, burned oversalted food, a disaster”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2011

We go to France to eat and drink well, and based on the reviews i had read, we were looking forward to our dinner here. From outside, the menu and decor were also interesting if a bit pricy, But our Friday night dinner was a disaster. We had to ask for salt several times for the appetizer and tried to get it ourselves (unsuccessfully). After waiting 45 minutes for our main course, my husband's fish was burned and oversalted and inedible. They offered to replace it but we were in no mood to wait another hour for a single dish. In general, the wait staff were running around stressed and grouchy, which only made the hectic atmosphere in the restaurant worse. We were charged the full amount for the bad dish...all in all not the standard for a place with gourmet ambitions and an honourable mention in the famous red guide. A simple bistro would have been a more satisfying choice.

“a pleasant surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2011

a little pricey, but given the american dollar, to be expected. now, that i've gotten past that, let me say that this lovely bistro has a great menu with recognizable yet innovative plates. great staff and ambience. highly recommend when you are in reims.

“Good food and nice atmosphere, good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2011 via mobile

We had lunch there on a busy saturday, the street was closed for the saturday street market which is well worth walking about.
The place was packed and had live music which was a nice touch. Good traditional french food with attentive service, excellent champagne selection, some of it very well priced.
Definitely would recommend.

“Perfect restaurant for our one night in Reims - traditional French cuisine with a great choice of champagnes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2011

Delivered traditional French cuisine which, while not innovative, was still done well. Generous portion sizes, cooked and seasoned appropriately, full of flavour. All three of us loved our entrees and mains. I especially loved my baked scallops with truffled potato - to die for! The only thing that let them down were the desserts, which were very average and it was disappointing after such great preceding courses. My framboise macaron was chewy to the point of being hard and the creme caramel was unbalanced. This is what stopped me from giving them an "excellent" for food, however this shouldn't put you off as I would just recommenced to skip dessert or finish with cheese and you'll be happy! They also had a great list of champagnes on "special", so we ended up drinking some pretty spectacular vintages for not very much money at all. The staff were efficient and professional and were very accommodating when I explained I was allergic to onion. We were probably lucky, however, that we had a little bit of French between us as I think they would have struggled with a strictly English speaking table. A great place to dine on our one night in Reims.

“Nice place and good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2010

I like restaurants where they are professional and attentive to detail. And at Au Petit Comptoir they are. the food is technically well cooked, although not very innovative (and sometimes it's good they aren't). The interior is quite carefully studied and has this atmosphere "insuciante" which I love. All, in all, good but a tad expensive.
