“A Restaurant with a Comfortable Atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2013

We chose this restaurant when visiting Epernay, because one of the local champagne producers suggested it. And we really liked the place - this was one of our most memorable restaurant experiences while visiting France.

When we first entered the restaurant, we thought it was packed full, but they had more space at the back of the building. Funny thing to us was that the waiter was very apologetic about seating us in the back room all alone with no one else as company - we being Finns found it great having a whole room just for us two! Well, in about half an hour every table in that room was taken, too, so we didn't have to sit there alone for very long.

We chose the 19 euros Sympa menu and a bottle of champagne and found the food good value for the money. The waiter took good care of us - we didn't have to wait too long between courses and there was water and bread on the table the whole time, when the candle burnt down it was changed, etc.

Even though the restaurant was full of people, we did not get a feeling that we should just eat quickly and then give room to the next customers but were allowed to enjoy the menu at our own pace. So although it was a busy evening for the staff, we didn't feel rushed. Would definitely visit this restaurant again!

“Tradition”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013

Nice and classic place. We took the menu of 36€ and the food was correct. Especially the scallops in the champagne cream sauce and the cod in chardonnay were good. And a special mention for the excellent gratin of fruits. This is a good restaurant to eat traditional kitchen: which means in this rating: 'average', because 'very good' means also good points for 'everything' (seating, decoration, staff): and then I must say that the restaurant lacks personality.

“Tasty Food in the Centre of Epernay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

THis small restaurant close to the Centre is an excellent place to stop for a very tasty, modestly priced meal. The staff are most helpful and the service good. In particular their ¨Menu¨is exceptionally good value.

“So amazing we went here twice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013

We went for the "sympa" menu, that offers starter, main course and dessert for just €19 (VAT inc.). The service was great. They were very attentive and nice. They were always around when you needed them and we were never short of bread, water or anything else.

Portions were just right, sometimes even generous (especially the cassoulet). But what counts the most is the food. All the meals were extraordinary and you can see from number of my reviews that I can compare with quite lots of previous experiences around the world. I will remember a delicious coq au vin, tarte Friande with amazing morel sauce, superb artichoke with snails or traditional Tete de Veau (calf's head meat - ear, tongue, brain etc.).

Lunch or dinner the place is always full so do not forget to make a reservation.

“only ok”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

menus expensive, wine (in half litres?) overpriced. thought, what the heck and went for a 38 euro menu. The food was ok,. my husbands starter a cassoulette of seafood was full of scallops and prawns, the steak was tender but spoiled by an overflavoured sauce. The creme brulee was warm/ hot, there were only 3 courses and with 1/2 litre of their cheapest wine (not champagne!) the bill was 95 euros. Thats ok for a great meal but this was only an ok meal.
