“Old and quaint”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2013

I just loved the quaint old place. The bathroom hiding behind what looked like the wardrobe door. The funny old key, the stairwell, the lift stopping at the half landing. Very clean, staff welcoming (mostly family) and friendly. We stayed four nights. Superbly close to the train station which was just marvellous as Tours was a base for visiting various places in the area.

The bed was hard and the wifi was a big problem. Even when reported to staff that it had stopped working they either said it was fine, or didn't know how to reboot the struggling system.

My daughter and I stayed here one night while visiting the chateaux of the Loire. It is right across from the train station and very convenient for spending a day in the city. The staff was welcoming and the breakfast was excellent. Our room was clean and cozy. The restaurant next door, L'Odeon, was outstanding.

Three of us stayed here for two nights and we were given a good sized room with three single beds and en suite bathroom. It was a very comfortable stay. We really liked the balcony overlooking the beautiful building of Tours train station, was great for some people watching. It has an old fashioned, quirky feel to it but everything works fine. We were given fresh towels the next day as well.

We asked to stay for another night last minute, the staff were very helpful and flexible in accommodating us. Staff were generally helpful but their English isn't great so is easier if you speak a bit of French- if not the Tourist office is great.

Hotel de L'Europe is right by the train station. If you just walk out and look to your right it's right there. It's about a 10 minute easy walk into the old town and 30 second walk to the tourist office.

We returned to Tours for an overnight stay on our way through France. The hotel is centrally located and if you are driving easy to get to - simply drive into Tours centre following signs to the station and Office de Tourisme - park in the underground car park (under the square directly in front of the station) and the hotel is just alongside.
The hotel is very clean and as other reviewers have said has lots of character - lovely old furniture, beautiful polished brass stair rods and really nice staff as well!
We didn't have breakfast - preferring instead to walk to one to the nearby squares and eat at one of the cafe bars - but the dining room looks good.
From the hotel you can easily walk into the old town, they have street maps of the town freely available. The city is beautiful and somewhere you'll want to go back to. Find the old square with its bars and restaurants - very studenty and a great place to have a beer/wine and watch the world go by!
Anyway - we liked the hotel so much we had an overnight stop on the way back up through France and stayed there again. Not very imaginative but such a good base for getting the best out of the city!

stayed with a large group. Rooms varied but were clean and comfortable with character. Love the interesting keys for the tricky doors. An old building with a lot of charm. Excellent location but was a little noisy facing the street where work was being carried out at RER station...didn't bother us though as up early and out late. Everything in walking distance. Nice breakfast and service for the price.

Room Tip: Some rooms bigger than others. Street facing corners had a small verandah with french doors but then...

I stayed here after my original hotel erred in completing my reservation. The hotel is, as other reviewers note, dated. However, it was clean and functional, and I slept well (my room was facing a side street and I was grateful since I was jet-lagged). It is well-priced and the location near the train station is good for those on a short stay, as I was. My favorite part of Tours is the Place Plumereau and I would prefer that part of town but this is adequate.

We stayed here with a group. Location right across from the station and accessible by foot to all the local sights, eateries, tourist office, etc. We had a great room - spacious, looking out over the square. Breakfast was very good. Absolutely loved the vestiges of an earlier time and had visions of past guests in good times and bad. They have fabulous old furniture and statuary, and I wish we could have taken lots of it home. Loved the old bar with the ceramic bar taps - not in use, unfortunately. We would love to stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for a front room
