“Basic, but clean and excellent value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2009

My wife and I thought we were booked into the Citadel which is 100 metres along the road but due to a total lack of comunication between the booking company and the Citadel, they had no record of the booking and no space either so we asked for a recommendation and they sent us to the Mirabeau - result!

Despite me looking like I'd just landed from outer space (just completed a 300 kilometre motorcycle journey in 32 degrees of heat) we were both made very welcome and shown a large room which had a double and a single bed. The en-suite bathroom was very clean (as was everything) and we had a very comfortable night for only 58 Euros (at least 10 less than where we were due to stay).

No, its not a modern hotel in the way the Citadel is but for one or two nights, it's great value for money.

Note - there is no private parking but there is plenty in the road and it didn't exactly look like it was the car-crime capital of France!

I have been staying here five or six times a year for the last few years, very happy with the hotel, I don't know why I did not write a review before. I guess I did not want the word to spread because this hotel is such good value. Rooms are between 47 and 56 euros; every room is different: the more 'expensive' ones are very large, and only the cheapest are small. The hotel is a large old townhouse, ideally located 400 meters from Tours' train station, city center, and Vinci concert and exhibition venue. There are rooms on the front street, on the side street and on the courtyard. They are all nice but the front street is busy with traffic in the mornings. The hotel is a small business run by the owners. They are friendly and pleasant, and they take good care of their rooms. Old-style furniture and "oldish" bathroom decoration but everything impeccably clean and welcoming (carpets, walls, linen, bathroom). Breakfast (unbeatable, I think it is 8 euros)takes place in a pleasant, bright room next to the courtyard, and the food is very nice although it's just a continental breakfast: very good bread and croissants from a local bakery, yogurt, cereals, fruit, that kind of thing. The hotel reception closes around 10:30 in the evening but you can get in after hours.
Tours is ideally located to be the basis for your trips to the Châteaux de la Loire, and the town itself has a lot to offer. If you are looking for an inexpensive, cozy hotel where you will feel at home, this is the place. I have been a customer for years and do not plan to go anywhere else.

A small hotel that is clean, good value, and within walking distance to train station (about 200-300 meter) as well as other major attractions in Tours, such as the cathedral and the "old street" where you can find a lot of excellent restaurants with good prices. The location is a bit far from the old city, but still within walking distance; it is probably about 1.5 km, and a nice walk especially if you go through the shopping street where the major department stores are. Because we left in the morning and only returned late at night for the six nights that we stayed in the hotel, we found that the hotel was a nice base to explore the area.

The staff is friendly and helpful, but is off after 11 pm. You need the security code to enter the building after 11 pm, so it is important to remember the code. The breakfast was decent as well.

Overall, for the value of Euro 70 per night for a triple room, I am satisfied; it is clean, newly renovated, large room, and friendly staff.

  • Liked — Clean, big room, and reasonable price with wireless internet connection
  • Disliked — Traffic noise as our room is facing the main road
