“The Royal Treatment”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2013

Domaine de la Tortiniere is beautiful, and the staff there is so attentive and pleasant that you feel as pampered as a royal family in the days of the Sun King! Our room in the main building was perfect for a family of four, with two beds in the sitting room for the kids and a separate bedroom in the turret for the parents. The dinner was delicious. Our stroll through the surrounding woods the next morning was lovely; our kids loved the swing in the big tree. After many days in Paris it is nice to take a little break and stay in the French countryside. It is a great place to experience the beauty of the Loire Valley. It is expensive, but we felt it was worth the splurge.

We reached St. Pierre de Corps early in the morning on a Sunday, did not rent our car (BIG planning error). We booked a cab (cost about 35 euros) to get there. Renting a car is a must and try reaching on a weekday as on Sunday, the rental car shops are all shut. Also, during this season, there aren't too many buses etc. RENT A CAR. Anyway, that was off-topic. The location is slightly away from the most famous chateaus in the region but we didn't even go there as we loved spending time here, relaxing by the pool, walking in the woods....

The driveway is beautiful. We were told that the room was not ready (as we reached at around 9 AM) but were free to explore the property, have breakfast etc. Breakfast was a good spread (not many options for vegetarians). The property was lovely. We sat outdoors with a great view of the valley and a bottle of wine. So relaxing.

BRING YOUR OWN WINE as the bottles here are expensive.

The rooms were very nice. They gave us a complimentary upgrade (highly appreciated) and the room and bathroom was lovely, with a little balcony. Toiletries were nice too. :)

They have a lovely study with a warm fireplace where you can sit, drink and read a book.

The receptionists were VERY HELPFUL. He recommended we take a row boat and row down the rivulet (a lovely 10 minute walk from the property). He also gave us a print of the bus route and the timings to help us get to the station on the way back.

The dinner service is lovely. It was the best meal I had on the trip (I am vegetarian and had the risotto.. presentation was lovely and it tasted divine!)

HIGHLIGHT - I left my cell phone at the Chateau. I asked them to courier it to our hotel in Paris, which they gladly did. They did it for 13 euros, followed up with the courier service for me, ensured I received it before I came back to India.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND this for a couple, who want to unwind. The team is super helpful, service is great and the chateau is beautiful!

Room Tip: We did not have a room in the main chateau but in the annexe and quite liked it.

Loire Valley pure - looking out on castles and medieval ruins in the distance, emerging from thick forests. A charming, beautifully restored castle, in private hands. International mixture of guests, heated pool, beautiful park. Contemporary design, but linking to the history - walls covered by material - like in the castles in the renaissance.
Delicious food, charming, friendly personnel.Professionally managed, welcoming, flexible.

After our last hotel in Normandy, Domaine de la Tortiniere was a breath of fresh air. Everyone was very friendly, the food was great, and setting was stunning. It was the first time ever I've written a thank you note to the hotel manager. We had dinner there twice and enjoyed it both times. Strongly recommend this for anyone staying in the Loire Valley.

We found this as a stop off on our way back from south of France to Calais. But ended up adding another day to our holiday ans stayed a second night - as it was so special here. Staff team are excellent / food delicious / views magical and we had fantastic weather. Lovely and memorable way to end our summer hols . I don't usually subscribe to the saying - you get what you pay for - but here - it really is true.

I had the most wonderful experience staying 1 night here. I would go out of my way to return someday. The service was over the top and the restaurant was equally superb. From the per-dinner drink overlooking the vista below from the regal balcony to the comfortable cottage accommodations, I would never hesitate to recommend this to anyone looking for a unique majestic retreat into the French castle countryside.

We stayed here for two nights on our way to the south of France, a night on the way and one on the way back. What a lovely stopover! Perfect destination. Our daughters aged 2 and 4 absolutely loved it. It's expensive...you can't get past that - we had a suite so obviously a lot more expensive.

There are a few tiny negatives...a glass of apple juice for the kids cost 6 Euros each - which I think is ridiculous! And I would have personally liked to have seen more choice at breakfast - especially considering that was quite pricey too! They seemed to run out of plain croissants very quickly....which isn't great when you have 2 hungry children!

The evening meals were great but again it would have been nice to have a few more options. Unfortunately our beef and duck were a tiny bit over cooked and under seasoned - but were all edible! The lovely somelier was so helpful and most of the waiting staff were amazing and so friendly.

One piece of advise - have the profiteroles for dessert - absolutely AMAZING!

Swimming pool was fab, the kids loved it....a refreshing break from our journey! And the hotel provide towels so that made things much easier.

And a tiny niggle....there are ride on tractors/cars for the kids to play on but most were a little broken which was a shame.

Overall a fabulous place to visit. Spectacular views and wonderful service we would certainly return.

Room Tip: The suites are lovely but pricey....
