“Good base for the Loire, but we found our room far too hot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2014

We have stayed here several times and found it a good base for exploring the Loire area. The hotel now looks a bit shabby with paint peeling in places, but it's a lot cheaper then most decent hotels in the area, so perhaps excusable. I guess we shall probably come here again.

This time we had a room on the front more or less over the main entrance. The main problem was that the weather was hot and so was the room. There was an air conditioner but even on full blast it had very little effect; we slept with shutters and windows fully open but were still much too hot. There was free wifi, but had to get a password slip from reception for each device, and even then there was a complex registration procedure which other hotels seem not to require. The dinner was good at Euro 45 for the standard menu, and we paid Euro 8 extra for the cheese course as there is an excellent cheese board. The wine list has few wines below Euro 35 and we also didn't like the practice of taking the wine bottle some way from our table as it wasn't always easy to get a waiter to pour more wine for us. Otherwise the dinner was very enjoyable. At breakfast they serve you juice, coffee and croissants, the rest one can get from a buffet table but there wasn't much fruit or cheese, so not as good as it could have been.

Room Tip: In hot weather, ask for one with air conditioning that's really effective.

This authentic Loire Valley chateau with lovely gardens was a great place to stay. Our room was large, clean, very comfortable with a king-size bed and brand-new bathroom. The air-conditioning was not strong enough for a hot summer night but those are fairly rare. The restaurant was excellent, service warm and friendly, minibar stocked. Wifi did not work. Very nice overall; prices on the high side for the room and the food.

Stayed in a suite overlooking the garden, it was comfortable but long and thin, main issue was the air conditioning didn't work so the rooms were hot and stuffy even with the windows open and a fan, not helped by being in the roof.

The food in the bistro was excellent, I don't think that the main restaurant was open nothing was explained. The service in the bistro was also pretty good however it was non existent in the rest of the hotel given the price of the rooms. No turndown service, a wait for reception and then one person seemed to be doing everything - greeting guests, answering the phone, escorting people to dinner - not what I would expect. My husband carried the luggage as she wasn't physically up to it. Hotel service
needs sorting out not what I would expect from a Relais.

This is a traditional small chateau in a very peaceful location just south of Tours, a couple of miles drive from the centre of the city.
The hotel was welcoming, clean and the staff were all charming, Our room had a view of the gardens and the imposing front of the building. We had a great night's sleep here.
We chose the hotel for an overnight stay and to use the luxurious and immaculate (and empty !) spa facilities. We dined in the city that evening.

Stayed here for one night on a business trip with 10 colleagues the night before a seminar at the Chateau. I stayed in the pavilion and my room was very well equipped and recently renovated. The evening meal was superb with excellent wine list. The breakfast choice was a little disappointing mainly because it was so dominated by pastries. Ideal if you are not watching your weight!

The conference facilities were excellent and the canapés were to die for.

Will come back again

While the main building is promising, the hotel staff ruins the experience. The scolding front desk staff seem to intensely dislike children and make no attempt to hide this. They were repeatedly rude to my children and that of another family's staying at the hotel. Coupled with crumbling infrastructure makes this a place to avoid.

First discovered by us at least seven years ago, this hotel is as welcoming as ever. Its location is unexpected - the first time we stayed my husband was certain my navigation was 'out' - how could there be an hotel in the network of 'relais de silence' when we were in the middle of high-rise blocks of flats? but I was quite correct - we only had to leave the main road, taking a narrow road climbing up away from Joue-les-Tours to the west, and there it was! An oasis close to the middle of the big city - an oasis of park and trees, and good food and luxury accommodation. The restaurant was full that night and our dessert was a hot souffle flavoured with mandarine liqueur which will long remain in our memories. An hotel worth searching for - a crock of gold at rainbow's end!

Room Tip: Ask for the room overlooking the park with the salon, on the left at the top of the stairs
