I have benefited for a long time from the reviews in Trip Advisor so I'm making it my new year's resolution to share my views about hotels.
We chose Tours as a base to explore the Loire Valley around Christmas time. I was surprised to learn that all the B&Bs were fully booked and decided to look for a hotel instead. I selected a few based on the recommendations on this site. The owners of Castel Fleuri were the only ones to reply right away and to offer useful suggestions. Thrusting Google maps I felt confident on booking it, because I knew that we weren't going to have to walk several kilometres to get to the city centre and/or to the train station. We didn't have a car so it was important to be able to get back and forth on foot or with public transportation.
We spent nine nights at the hotel, including Christmas, and were extremely pleased with the services. The rooms are big and clean and look recently renovated. We didn't have problems sleeping even thought we were on the main floor and right in front of the parking area. We only had breakfast at the hotel once. Baguette, cheese, coffee, tea, juice, yogurt, cereal and fruits were available. It was more than enough to keep us going! There is also free WiFi. It was slightly tricky because the signal was stronger as some times than at others. It may have to do with the fact that our room was the furthest from the reception, but we are not sure.
Marie-Andree was fabulous and she collected a bunch of brochures about the castles around the region, pointing at the once that were open on the 25th, when everything else was closed. All in all we are very pleased with the services received, can recommend the hotel and will certainly go back.
A taxi from the train station costs around 16 Euros, a one-way ticket 1.40 Euros. There is construction work going on in Wilson's bridge, once that tram line opens it'll be extremely easy to get there. In the mean time, you could take bus 1A or 1B to Place Choiseul at the stop Jean Jaures (close to the city hall and 1.5 blocks from the train station). From there it is only a 5-minute walk.
