“Charming and welcoming in Chinon”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2013

It was just a one-night stop for two couples exploring the French countryside, and the Hotel Agnes Sorel was a nice stop. The innkeeper Christine was very welcoming. The price was right, the room was a little bit dated, but old-world charm made up for it. We stayed in two rooms on a little courtyard and enjoyed a bottle of local wine and a conversation with Christine. Would definitely recommend this hotel to friends. I did, however, have some of the strangest dreams the night we were here. Cats kept climbing through the bathroom window. A bit weird, but somehow I think quite possible. Parking is down the street and is free. Be sure to go see the fort on the top of the hill. There was a great exhibit on dragons.

I stayed here for 2 nights in Mid September & really loved it, the room was light & airy, it looked like it may have been remodeled recently, if not, definitely very well maintained! If newly remodeled, this brings up the only negative thing about the hotel, lack of electrical outlets. Besides the one for the TV, there was only one in the room & none in the bathroom. Since I don't use the hair dryers provided by the hotels, I had to dry my hair sitting on the bed with no mirrors nearby, which also made quite a challenge to use the eletric curling iron. This is too bad because otherwise this place would be perfect!

Extremely clean, big modern bathroom with plenty of light, the location is great, Chinon is not very big so everything is within walking distance. The owner was very friendly & helpful & the breakfast was more than enough, the wifi was superb, able to have both my iPhone & iPad on the wifi at the same time & still great speed.

I stayed in 4 hotels during my trip & this was one of my favorites, despite the electrical outlet issue... Would most definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Chinon.

Stopped here for one night in August 2013, whilst visiting two of the local chateaux....
We stopped in the annex, which was a bit concerning as we approached it, going up the narrow side street...
However, once inside the courtyard, what a great little place, a real sun trap and the rooms
were very comfortable and roomy.
The breakfast was more than adequate and set us up for the day

We were driving down to Bordeaux from London and decided tocdo an overnight in Chinon. Read the reviews and decided to book Hotel Agnes-Sorel, and was not disappointed. We had the room at the front of the house (The one in the photo on this site) overlooking the river. Big bathroom, good shower and bath tub. The bed was comfortable, however, if you like to sleep with the windows open especially on a hot night, this room will be noisy due to the fact that it overlooks the main rd into town. Christine is really friendly, gave us some great restaurant recommendations, and event booked up a table at L'Ardoise on the roof terrace. Breakfast is extra at 8€pp, but good continental breakfast with fresh bread, croissants, cereals, yogurt, orange juice and a jug of coffee. Good location and good price. The wine shop next door to the hotel are the owners of a well known vineyard in Chinon, you can find their wines in London: Couly-Dutheil.

Nice small hotel in good spot. Very affordable. A warm welcome and extremely helpful proprietor ( the lovely Christine) also made our stay there a very happy one. A perfect spot from which to explore Chenin.

Room Tip: Upstairs at front of hotel which I think was room 1 has magnificent views of the river and was nice...

We stayed at Agnes Sorel for 3 nights in early September. We enjoyed our stay and will not hesitate to stay here again – beautiful and convenient location, peaceful, free parking – a great value for 55-65 Euros per couple.
Location: Walking distance to the to the historic town center (2 mins), below the chateau overlooking beautiful Vienne river, I took several great pictures from a parking lot in front of the hotel. Very convenient for exploring chateaux of the region
Parking: A small free public lot for ~6 cars in front of the hotel, need luck to get a spot, larger free public lot a block away.
Rooms: We occupied 2 double rooms (2 couples) #6 (65b Euros), #7 ( 55 Euros) facing a private courtyard. The rooms are on a small side, spotless and with comfortable beds. Rooms are very quiet.
Breakfast: Had it once, typical continental breakfast.
Hosts: Christine, the owner is very charming and helpful; she speaks fluent English and gave us great pointers on sightseeing and restaurants.

Hotel Agnes Sorel is both a good stop for those just passing through, and a great base for those exploring this historic town. The position is superb – below the famous Fortress and overlooking the Vienne river – and is within close walking distance of the centre of town. There is a very warm welcome from the proprietor, who seems to have a vast knowledge of the assets of the town, including all the best eating places. The rooms are spotless, and where I stayed in the sidestreet annex, totally quiet and free of traffic noise. A bonus for breakfast is the selection of home-made jams. I have stayed in this hotel on two occasions and was delighted with the welcome, the aspect, the room and the situation, and would definitely go back again. I recommend it.
