“Perhaps the best known of the Loire Chateaux”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2013

Very extensive and well laid out grounds reflecting its past ownership. One of the must see castles along with Villandry. Unlike a lot of the castles, this one is furnished with lots of things to see. The wax museum (extra charge) is small and probably only worth the cost if you are into waxworks or want to see some period costumes; otherwise it is better to spend time strolling the parkland and visiting the vegetable garden.

“Tight squeeze in places”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

Really great looking chateau. The gallery on multiple levels is impressive (its the part across the river) However other rooms are small and was very crowded. This made making your way around the chateau an aggrophobes worse nightmare. The surrounding grounds were nice. To be honest we didn't walk around the gardens, but from a distance they looked nice. We did the maze, and walk to a grave in woods on the opposite side of the river.

“Amazing Chateau”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2013 via mobile

This is the best chateau on the three Chateau tour by Cityrama! The history was great. I recommend a guide when going there. It is pretty small but is very interesting!

“Unique building, One of the best Chateaux..”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

Good Chateau, only beatin by Chambord Chateau in my opinion. Grounds are decent enough.
The fireplaces are very impressive as is the long hall over the river. You are restricted from walking out the other side of the river via the long hall which is kind of a let down.
The kitchens in the castle legs are a highlight. I definitely recommend a visit to this chateau.
NOTE!!
Don’t pay extra for wax works, its only last about 3 minutes, it’s a large windy room in a building off to the side of main buildings and its very poor.

“Good, not my favourite”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

If you're interested in the grande chateaux with decorated rooms and large gardens, this is for you. I liked the decorated kitchens, but got bored with even more paintings and tapestries. A shame you can't exit on the other end either, as your view on the outside is quite limited. It's well kept but not as exciting as, for example, the lesser known Langeais.
