“charming hotel close to the castle”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2012

we stayed there recently as a family of four on our tour to the Castles in the Val de Loire. This hotel is in close proximity to the castle in a quiet pedestrian zone, which means that access with the car is difficult, but there is plenty of parking on the market square nearby (<2min walk). The room was spacious, everything worked out very well.
Would come back anytime again.

We stayed over at this hotel on our way to the south of France, and it was truly great. Charming little hotel, spotlessly clean, recently renovated, and only 100m from the Azay-le-Rideau castle. If you're visiting the Loire valley and castles, you should definitely consider this hotel, which is by the way owned by a very friendly couple. Great value for money in a charming scene!

The family stayed one night on route to the South West of France. We have undertaken this trip for many years but will stay in future at the Biencourt. Our stay was faultless. A lovely welcome and a delightful stay. We were in the annex which is a converted old school building and is situated to the rear. We will be back next year!

We have just returned from 4 nights at the Biencourt which lived up to our expectations. I know what lawrence_97 meant in his review but it certainly suited us. Our only real criticisms were the lack of hanging space in the bedroom and the fact that all the (many) TV channels were French. That said, there was free wi-fi so we could watch what we wanted on our iPad.

We thought breakfast was better than average (by French standards) although €9 a head wasn't cheap. It was also usually a bright affair as the hotel is used by many cyclists and I've never been in the presence of so much colourful Lycra at one time!

The hotel was reasonably priced, beautifully decorated, very clean and exceptionally obliging. Although there is no fridge in the room, there is one available for guests to share and we used that for drinks and sandwich bits etc with no problems.

The hotel is in a pedestrian street but you are allowed to drive down it to load and unload and although parking might have been a problem we had no trouble finding a space whenever we wanted one.

The owners are very helpful and we would certainly return next time we visit Azay.

One tip I will pass on is, under no circumstances visit the Son et Lumiere at Azay Chateau. It cost €11 each and was grim. They wouldn't let us leave before the end either. I think they thought we'd tell everyone waiting in line for the next show not to bother!!!

There was nothing wrong with this hotel, but we didn't warm to it. The whole hotel looks very recently refurbished, but the decor was a bit modern/ sparse for our taste. That said it occupies a great location just a few paces from the Chateau in Azay which is the main reason to visit the town.
Breakfast was fine, but our experience was that the later you come down the less food is available.

We stayed in a beautiful room opening out onto the garden in the middle of the property. Evertything about the Hotel de Biencourt was just perfect for us. Quite setting, peaceful room, simple and tasteful decor. Very comfortable bed. Loverly bathroom. Breakfast in the moring hit the spot. We stayed as part of our velo tour and could not recommend this Hotel highly enough. Bravo to the owners.

Part of the hotel was a school from teh napoleanic era , so it transfers you compeketly to a different world. As a matter of fact they have preserved some benches too which give you a school feel. The hotel is walking distance from the castle which makes life easier:). It's prximity to the restaurnats is also very good. Rooms are very spacious and comfortable. A very practical hotel with lots of character. i would certainly recomend and will stay there again.

Room Tip: Spacious rooms, comfortable beds what else one needs:) I tried the room with a courtyard view, sunny...
